Welcome back to Shooting Game Tournament! This is the 2nd official STGT '07 thread out of two main threads. The 1st official STGT '07 thread can be found here.
About
The Shooting Game Tournament 2007 is a friendly score competition among users of shmups.com. The score validation works like in the hiscore threads. So you just play the game on PCB, emulator or any console port and post your score which you don't need to prove. (However if you are a troll or have a questionable reputation, be prepared to be asked for snapshots or other verifications)

<Twiddle-0> Not to mention there's a billion versions for the Raiden Fighters series
<Twiddle-0> and you have to use the same region for all if you settle on one
<Twiddle-0> all 3 regions (Asia, Japan, US) have traits that impact scoring heavily
<Twiddle-0> there's also a rogue version of vp1 that has like 10 shots per weapon and limits you to the machine gun for basically all of the game. try to avoid putting that in
<Twiddle-0> dji: also, the Raiden Fighters 2 - 2000 version (also the 2000 version of Jet) are both ineligible
<Twiddle-0> because their rank is always minimum
<Twiddle-0> i know a couple forum members have pcbs of those
<Zakk> also for RFJ, make sure to note that US and US-single are different. so the 3 people who own US-single can't use it if the US region is chosen for the comp
<Zakk> (like me)
<Zakk> (I'm about to own two of them)
<Twiddle-0> yeah
<Twiddle-0> so for mame .115
<Twiddle-0> i'll release an nvram pack
<Twiddle-0> also for mame .103
<Twiddle-0> for people who want to use older versions
<victoly> want me to make one for .118?
<Twiddle-0> sure

DECIDED
Hidden Gem Week
Below is the list of games Edge and I pulled from various threads (my bad if we missed any). Anybody who knows anything about a game listed enough to know any reason it would not be good to use it for a scoring competition should bullet-point their reasons here.
Since a lot of this is based on judgment calls, I'll update the list and shuffle the games with constructive points against them to the Lesser Nominations category. If enough arguments or a very convincing argument is made against a game (such as Space Megaforce and anything Compile), I'll just mark the game nomination "defeated"
Edge still picks what he wants to research, obviously. But at least the community has more of a voice so he knows what order he should take a look at things. All this list is for is to put our shout-out nominations into better perspective.
The theory is, the last games nobody knows enough about to bitch against may be our """hidden gems?"""
Code: Select all
Game - X.# (summarized useful stuff)
X = good points against it [based on my call]
# = complaints from member preference (counts as tenth of point) [starting Oct 8]

The Forum's game knowledge provides a better shortlist and minimizes version conflicts, infinites, and other buzzkill-types of crisis. Anything you know about different versions of the same game (especially between ports of relevant titles), please tell us what Edge should look out for as he researches them. Check Seibu week as an example.
For Hidden Gem Week, If you know of non-scoring glitch or infinite scoring loop games that run in MAME and can function for tournament play while satisfying our theme criteria, suggest them.
If you have an opinion of what the 5-game shortlist should be on a theme week, post it &/or defend it.
