Welcome back to Shooting Game Tournament! This is the 2nd official STGT '07 thread out of two main threads. The 1st official STGT '07 thread can be found here.

About
The Shooting Game Tournament 2007 is a friendly score competition among users of shmups.com. The score validation works like in the hiscore threads. So you just play the game on PCB, emulator or any console port and post your score which you don't need to prove. (However if you are a troll or have a questionable reputation, be prepared to be asked for snapshots or other verifications)

Konami Week
OPEN FOR DISCUSSION
Salamander 2, Xexex Jpn Version, Trigon/Lightning Fighters, Gradius II, Twinbee 1, Twinbee Yahho, Sexy Parodius, Gradius III, Detana Twinbee, Ajax, Salamander 1, Life Force Jpn Arc Version, Gokujou Parodius, Flak Attack/MX5000, Parodius Da, Space Manbow, Thunder Cross II (:? counter stop)
Mortificator wrote:
Just popping in to mention that Salamander 2 works fine in MAME. You just need to have the proper BIOS, konamigx.zip, in your ROM folder.

Seibu Kaihatsu Week
OPEN FOR DISCUSSION
Raiden 1, Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters Jet, Viper Phase 1, Raiden Fighters 2

<Twiddle-0> Not to mention there's a billion versions for the Raiden Fighters series
<Twiddle-0> and you have to use the same region for all if you settle on one
<Twiddle-0> all 3 regions (Asia, Japan, US) have traits that impact scoring heavily

<Twiddle-0> there's also a rogue version of vp1 that has like 10 shots per weapon and limits you to the machine gun for basically all of the game. try to avoid putting that in

<Twiddle-0> dji: also, the Raiden Fighters 2 - 2000 version (also the 2000 version of Jet) are both ineligible
<Twiddle-0> because their rank is always minimum
<Twiddle-0> i know a couple forum members have pcbs of those

<Zakk> also for RFJ, make sure to note that US and US-single are different. so the 3 people who own US-single can't use it if the US region is chosen for the comp
<Zakk> (like me)
<Zakk> (I'm about to own two of them)

<Twiddle-0> yeah
<Twiddle-0> so for mame .115
<Twiddle-0> i'll release an nvram pack
<Twiddle-0> also for mame .103
<Twiddle-0> for people who want to use older versions
<victoly> want me to make one for .118?
<Twiddle-0> sure

'06 2nd Place Week
DECIDED

Hidden Gem Week
Below is the list of games Edge and I pulled from various threads (my bad if we missed any). Anybody who knows anything about a game listed enough to know any reason it would not be good to use it for a scoring competition should bullet-point their reasons here.

Since a lot of this is based on judgment calls, I'll update the list and shuffle the games with constructive points against them to the Lesser Nominations category. If enough arguments or a very convincing argument is made against a game (such as Space Megaforce and anything Compile), I'll just mark the game nomination "defeated"

Edge still picks what he wants to research, obviously. But at least the community has more of a voice so he knows what order he should take a look at things. All this list is for is to put our shout-out nominations into better perspective.

The theory is, the last games nobody knows enough about to bitch against may be our """hidden gems?"""

Code:
Game - X.# (summarized useful stuff)
X = good points against it [based on my call]
# = complaints from member preference (counts as tenth of point) [starting Oct 8]

+ = needs supporting arguments against listed claim (but different arguments against the game would be more useful)
*read: waiting for other people to say the same thing*

If you point out why it's good in respects to what we're looking for on the week, I'll move it up the list.

Be as harsh as you want on these games.

What To Do Right Now
The Forum's game knowledge provides a better shortlist and minimizes version conflicts, infinites, and other buzzkill-types of crisis. Anything you know about different versions of the same game (especially between ports of relevant titles), please tell us what Edge should look out for as he researches them. Check Seibu week as an example.

For Hidden Gem Week, If you know of non-scoring glitch or infinite scoring loop games that run in MAME and can function for tournament play while satisfying our theme criteria, suggest them.

If you have an opinion of what the 5-game shortlist should be on a theme week, post it &/or defend it.

The STGT Crew:

Organizers: Edge, DJ Incompetent
Game Selection Assistance: Danny, Super Laydock
Banner Guy: overkill55
Mascot: BulletMagnet

Have fun, good luck, try hard, & steer-clear the essay-fights ;)

seibu week - Raiden, Viper Phase 1, Raiden Fighters, RF2, RF Jet

with my luck vanilla raiden will get most of the votes even though dat game suxx

STGT 2006 second place games week - Where a sampling of second place winning games (by amount of votes) from STGT 2006 get voted on (not APB Normal) (this should probably be a recurring theme)

So it begins.
The title banner would have been better for Team Registration though, haha.

Nice choices. (Pogear will win the Second Choice Week, though.)

Also, Capcom, Taito and Konami.

Since arena shmups were considered for voting in the top 25, maybe we could have an arena week...?

Select me! Select me!

I might toss a "cute em up week" out there for the heck of it...and I liked the "doujin week" idea from last year.

Ooh, ooh, I definitely wanna be a part of this.......

I'll definitely be registering when the time comes, yes.

For now,

my own main suggestion, would of course have to be Cave week; just cause Im such a fan of theirs.

Another one might be Bullet-Hell/danmaku week.....

The Horizontal idea is a nice one too......

How about something like a Retro week? Which would be all older titles; say, stuff that appeared on the NES/SNES (such as Zanac), or earlier arcade ones (such as Galaga/Galaxian).

Or Capcom, Psikyo, or Raizing are ideas I also vote for.

And PLEASE put Giga Wing in there somewhere............ I'll give you cookies if you do.......
