The OLED version is the one I was gifted and can confirm it looks great, although I don't play it much handheld.

The cynic in me thinks that Nintendo is milking their hardcore fanbase to doubledip on a second purchase by releasing the OLED version of S2 later, and/or they're using early buyers to effectively troubleshoot their hardware so they can improve on it on the OLED release.

I just watched Russ's (retrogamecorps) impression video and it appears he was able to get his digital content mapped over to the switch 2, but he did very little software impressions (it wasn't the point of this video).

I'm considering grabbing a switch 1 oled as an upgrade from the original one I bought 7 or so years ago, but the retrogamecorp switch 2 comparison to the switch oled makes it seem like there isn't a stark difference between the two
Every Switch game that I own has run well so far. I've tested a bunch of stuff, including Grid Autosport, which isn't supposed to run at all, but it does if you launch in airplane mode. All of the shmups so far play exactly as I'd expect them to on the Switch 1, and some of them (subjectively!) feel just a tiny bit smoother. Strikers 1945 II for example feels very slightly less hockey-puckish. I played M2's Esprade via download and DOJ via cart and they feel exactly like playing on Switch 1.

Big laggy games like Civ 6 and Dynasty Warriors 8 are transformed on Switch 2. 60 fps, max resolution all the time, the works, and lots of these games haven't been patched yet. Seems like the S1 emulation environment leaves a ton of headroom available for dynamic scaling, especially for GPU-bound titles. Beyond that, controller input feels cleaner and more responsive across the board, and all wireless communication is MUCH faster, with download speeds on par with Steam on PC.

I tried deleting all my Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury data and when starting it, it forced me to update. Not sure why, but since someone obviously got it working without an update (as per the DoesItPlay post), it suggests to me that there will be lots of wrong information on this in the future because of bad testing methodology.

Other than that I'm mostly happy with how backwards compatibility works on the games I've tested.

Does the Switch port of Shinorubi still have the 30 fps framerate issue if played on the Switch 2 setup?
Quoting me seems like you're asking me and I have no idea, nor do I know why you would suspect I would have a random game like that.

But if it was unstable 30 or 60 FPS before, I would expect that 30 or 60 FPS to be stable with the Switch 2. That seems to be the trend.

Games going from 30 to 60 without a patch are very unusual (strangely enough, there is one case: Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle).

Another bit of unfortunate news for physical collectors: Switch game cards are slower than the internal storage, both for Switch 1 and Switch 2 games, so expect a bit longer loading times. I can't fault Nintendo for this one though.

Also I'm not as convinced as everyone here there will be an OLED version later on. Not sure why it's treated as a sure thing, especially not with a company like Nintendo. I would say it's 50/50.

I agree that OLED isn't a given.

The XBOX branded ROG Ally also ended up LCD, and the marketing guy at ASUS stated that VRR on OLED uses a lot more battery power, so they decided to stick to LCD.
