So your speed increases by charging your shield (hold down the button) till its big enough and then let go to release a bomb? First time I played I noticed that compared to all other cave games the ship moves really slow.
No. Your speed meanders through levels by tapping a and b together. You can see a speed gauge at the bottom of the screen. This just happens to also be the command for bomb cancel.
bydoempire wrote:What about the lasers some bosses have? It does not matter where you are on the screen they scan the whole screen. I found no way to avoid them.
There are things you can do that are far from obvious. Watch superplays. You can sometimes park above them or pull them one way with your placement then park on the other side of the screen, or be ready for them and lay a bomb at the right time to protect you.
bydoempire wrote:Is Pink Sweets considered the hardest cave game to 1cc by the community? I wouldn't be surprised if it is. There is no bullet canceling and also almost no slow down to help you (only in the staga with the toy trains where all hell breaks loose).
Yes, unless you use the infinite lives trick but that is only on the pcb. The rank ramping is supposed to be slower on the port though, so if someone analyzed the rank system as much as it was done for Ibara, it could be plenty possible (I guess).

Don't forget that you have to rapid tap the shot button to get the #30 fire rate in order to get extra damage and score.

Also, afaik this is the only run I've seen uploaded to youtube of Pink Sweets 1.01 though I haven'looked for other runs outside Youtube.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yukBeaWoKWA

This made me realize how you have to play the game.

Pink Sweets is pretty much the best game ever. I stopped being a shmup player when I got it and became a Pink Sweets player.

The amount of times I've accidentally let a rose cracker off when trying to cancel out of it.

But the rank system, how hard it is to kill later enemies with the rank system, RNG involved in scoring at certain sections, Gradius syndrome when you die, the music all sucks unless you have the Arrange soundtrack. The game is way too damn long, even without the boss milking. The ridiculous amount of memo required at parts. The fact that I have to pause buffer just to get the autofire rate up at the start of a run since I don't have rapid fire on my controller, though at least that can be done before you even have to dodge anything.

And the port has the slowdown all screwed up and removed the infinite lives trick that would have maybe made the game worth playing.

But hey, I only got that release for Muchi Muchi Pork. Was worth it for that game alone since Pink Sweets is anything but that.

I can't get into it at all, seemed first at fun but trying to take it further made it feel like an anti-shmup.

That's actually my run. I'm glad you found it helpful - one of my main motivations in uploading it was to show how you can still score decently without using Lace (even though its still very much a work in progress). But it's not really "how you have to play the game" - one of the things I really like about the game is that there's lots of different ways you can play. For example, Plasmo uploaded a replay on the leaderboards which shows how to get an easy 1CC by dropping max medals at spots to control rank. Also the way you control rank can change the optimal way to score - at high rank you can abuse the rose cracker to milk points from bullets, but if you let the rank get too high then it might get too dangerous to use your regular shot to kill enemies. Since in general you get more points for killing enemies with your shot rather than the rose cracker, sometimes the trade-off isn't worth it. In addition all of the characters play wildly differently. All of this means that you can end up watching two different runs both succeed with completely different patterns.

I think probably the biggest turn-off for many people is that the game requires a lot of planning. Knowing when and where to position rose crackers, when you want to power up, what items to collect, ect. all takes a lot of forethought, not to mention that it can make recovery from an accident very difficult. But once you get the hang of it, it becomes really fun to experiment with different patterns and see how it affects your run overall. It's just a shame that there's not many good videos of this game (both 1.00 and 1.01) out there - I think with more resources to help make the game understandable, more players would be willing to give the game a shot.

This is pretty much exactly what I posted in the grievances thread last week, but then I discovered arranged mode and that changed everything. I agree original is kinda balls but give arranged a shot and it might completely change your view of the game.

I 1cc'd Arrange a while back, and I still don't care for the game. It's definitely a lot funner mode though.

Ah yeah, you can't completely copysomeone's run due to how randonly the game manages everythimg but that video showed me thr "spirit" needed for playing the game succesfully... Before wayching that video I thought the game was a joke

Anyway, I'm using Shasta for my 1cc atempts. Well, my runs aren't exactly "survivalists" since I'm trying to milk as much as I can and I'm destroying the midboss' options before killing the main body ;)

You charge your shield/bomb by not pushing the fire button, and you change speed/cancel your shield by pushing A+B. Your speed setting is indicated by the bomb's charge bar at the bottom of the screen, and pushing A+B makes it go up one step until you hit max speed, and then the next speed change starts it going down one step until it hits the slowest speed.

Lasers can't be blocked by the shield or options, but there's a really obvious charging-up sound and always fire in the direction the laser cannon is pointing. Most lasers are fixed, not aimed, so they can always be avoided.

Well I'm glad that I showed somebody the light!

Also, just incase people don't know - on Cave's webpage for the game there are maps for all of the stages, as well as point values for all of the enemies: http://www.cave.co.jp/gameonline/pinksw ... index.html

Cause imported games are over-fucking-priced where I live.

Do I need to buy things to love them? The internet has taught me otherwise.

Plus customs tax/VAT on top depending where you are and if it gets caught.

The vid is full of WTF. My guess is that CAVE use these to try to ppl to cosplay their characters. Does it work? Do the Japanese cosplay CAVE characters?

Maybe Rising Star would have had more success if they did the same over here. But with men in loli drag to attract these ppl
