Pink Sweets original... ehhh.... it feels like a "1.5" arrange mode could be in order.

Pink Sweets Arrange? I could play that shit all day.

As I said in another thread
Pink Sweets is as if yagawa threw everything into a blender and out came a mixture of the most delicious and tasty crap imaginable.
I honestly don't know why I find it fun. It's much too difficult to 1cc, scoring involves tons of annoying milking, if you milk bosses too much they get mad and you die, everything involving the rose cracker hates you, you have to change speed to cancel full charge, it's hitbox feels far too big, the medals are often placed right next to unwanted power ups, the game has pictures that pop up before bosses and obstruct the view, the bosses have no hp bars, rose hips seem relatively useless.

And yet I've probably played the first 2 stages 100+ times now.

It also by has the by far ugliest backgrounds of any Cave shmups ever, and the ones which were made by Tanaka, instead of the errandboy, are while nicely done, very simple.

Yagawa wanting to make a sequel to Recca and thinking he is still stuck with an NES controller. Ikeda should have taken it and fixed it before release. The Arrange mode is probably basically that but I've never played it. I kind of like the infinite lives trick, sort of. I completely hate the rank system though it would be interesting if someone had it dissected as well as people did for Ibara. I hate how you change speeds, hate how bombs are canceled... Definitely near the bottom of my Cave game rankings and one of the few Cave boards I can live without. Still got the clear though.

Pink Sweets is a fascinating game from a design perspective, and I really wish I had the patience to stick with it. It's just so damn unforgiving that I find it very easy to hit a tough spot and say "well, looks like that's where my credit ends." When I hit a wall at stage 4 I find it difficult to imagine that I will ever achieve victory over the next three stages.

Still, I like to come back to it on occasion. It's a wonderfully imagined anti-Ibara that does many, many interesting things (and has a sick soundtrack). It's still one of the few boards I'd like to own despite having the port. If the infinite lives trick were in the port it would be a wonderful goal to shoot for for those of us who don't have any interest in seriously attempting the game without it. As a matter of fact, I think it would have been really fun if the port gave the option to just have it on by default and play the whole damn game as a score attack. Maybe it'll be a romhack some day.

The infinite lives trick sux, you ruin the entire game (or half of it) by triggering it.

I felt that way when I first heard of it, but it really opens the game up to some scoring techniques that wouldn't otherwise be possible/reasonable given the kind of shit the game pulls on you. I'd like to see what I could do with it, if nothing else.

I love the Pink Sweets port. I think some scoring aspects might possibly annoy me if I had the patience and skill to try them, but I do think the bosses time out early enough that it wouldn't be a huge bastard. But Pink Sweets 1.5 and Pink Sweets Arrange are both A+ imo. Pink Pork is definitely my favorite Cave disc after Futari + BL.

Am I the only one who like 1.01? Anyone who says the rank is too harsh in 1.00 should give it a try. A max-rank clear in 1.01 is totally feasible even for a non-top player.

1.01 is something I've ignored, because I'm afraid it will ruin my 1.00 game. :?

Still, just getting your powerups back when you die makes the game significantly more reasonable.

I like it better than Muchi Muchi Pork. It's colorful and fresh and the art by Styleos is superb, as always. Also, it's full of details like when the girl screams when a bullet almost hits her. I had never seen this feature before in other shmups. Finally, the soundtrack of this game is great, specially the arranged versions, very catchy. The only negative points is that it's a bit too chaotic for me at times. Also, the conversion to XBOX360, like with Muchi Muchi Pork, looks blurier than other games.

I also think that Pink Sweets just has a really great feel to the shooting. Most Cave games are purely about dodging, and there's not a whole lot of energy in the shooting itself. But Pink Sweets, man I just love blowing shit up in this game.

I like the PS soundtrack a lot, gets my blood pumping, as for as the game goes, its too brutal at some later stages but overall its a good game.( it could be I'm not playing it in the most optimal way since there are so many options/players./styles to choose from)

You've got to be maso for taking the game seriously, and I do. Awesomse OST, awesome atmosphere, awesome enemy design and tghe lulz level in the enemy attacks are just too much.

I remember the first time I got to the end of stage 6... I was rofling all the time during the boss battle. Too unforgiving, too epic.

I love Pink Sweets. KAI, get me an Alfajor and some Dulce de leche, I need then right now

Posted all my hate for Pink Sweets original in the Grievances thread, and I still pretty much stand by my opinion that the original version has a badly designed rank system that ruins an otherwise awesome game. However I was also compelled to play the arranged mode by that thread, and the arrange mode is all the awesome. Completely saved the game.

After 7 effin weeks my copy of Muchi + Pink Sweets Cave Best arrived.

I like the music, the explosions are satisfying, the colors are strong and vibrant. BUT: Pink Sweets has the most unfair (of the intercourse in the rear end kind) bullet patterns I've ever seen. How I am supposed to dodge that. Bullets fill the WHOLE SCREEN. Also (mid-) bosses that take forever to die.

Boss design theme is not my favorite: Cheap old robo plastic toys are lame. The art style of the characters is cool though (old medievial castlevania clothes).

Yeah, and I have no idea how the game mechanics are. Ok, with that glowing orb you can eat bullets and release a bomb and now what? Playin it wrong.

No shame to admit that I enjoy credit feedin for the colors, explosions, music and art style.

You can absorb most of them if you lay off the controls but unfortunately you will have to hit a and b together perfectly in order to not lay a bomb afterwards which would also increase your rank, and also it will change your ship speed. Really dumb design. It started with Recca where you only had 2 buttons. Pink Sweets has no excuse.

You have a shield. You can cancel it without firing a bomb by changing speed. Your side pods also block most kinds of bullets. Don't try to block swords or missiles, it doesn't work.

So your speed increases by charging your shield (hold down the button) till its big enough and then let go to release a bomb? First time I played I noticed that compared to all other cave games the ship moves really slow.

What about the lasers some bosses have? It does not matter where you are on the screen they scan the whole screen. I found no way to avoid them.

Is Pink Sweets considered the hardest cave game to 1cc by the community? I wouldn't be surprised if it is. There is no bullet canceling and also almost no slow down to help you (only in the staga with the toy trains where all hell breaks loose).

The toy robots theme ruins it for me. Without them it would be perfect.

I didn't even have to look at the link to know what that was going to be :) I bought the PCB multiple times because of that track - Score Attack mode is just full of fun.

I really want to love PS but it requires a level of precision that I'm not comfortable with - the large hitbox and a single wrong button press letting off a rosecracker is no fun, and there are parts of the game whereby if you die and lose your powerups it's literally impossible to get through them. The latter is what finally put the nail in for me - I don't mind ludicrously difficult if you give me the tools to deal with it, but this doesn't.

I'd still love to see an all-rosecracker superplay though. It seems that Yagawa designed the game entirely around this mechanic, every wave and pattern able to be dealt with by a bomb, but the level of memorisation and precision required for this to be achieved must be huge.

A title that needs a black label or a 1.5 for sure, just to finalise things. Aesthetically and sonically it's one of my favourite games, I just don't enjoy playing it enough to own it.
