I think the game is quite managable on 1.01, and I find it to have better pacing than most Cave games.
I suggest trying to play 1.0 for survival—it may just make you revise this argument. Make no mistake, this game is one of the hardest ever. In fact, if you look at the scoreboard, you'll see some of the best players of Shmups forum struggling to get past stage 5 on a scoring run. No clears! Look at any other Yagawa scoreboard and you'll see the same people clearing those games more often than not. So, a valid complaint, I say. :)
I've only recently set my game to 1.0, so I'll give it some credits tonight. However, I would not argue that this game isn't tough. Thats one of its charms.

I would imagine that the players that are clearing everything else would be happy with the difficulty. I mean, what other game is going to stop them in their tracks when clearing Garegga and Ibara is fairly managable?

I don't know. Difficult, yes. Too difficult? I don't think so. I never die thinking, "That was impossible to get through."

However, if someone finds 1.0 so difficult that it is no longer fun, then why not play 1.01? I think that game has great pacing, and almost feels easy at first.

Like you said, though. It still is a valid complaint. All of them are valid. I just wanted to address those points because at one point, I wasn't a huge fan of Pink Sweets either. Coming back to it after a few months of rest, though, I found the game to be fantastic. Easily one of my favorite Cave games, and Muchi Pork is way up there too.

Could be a small reprint, or someone up Amazon's supply chain found some unsold stock. No way to know.

It does seem strange.

As for a Platinum Collection release, I believe it did meet requirements. It sold close to 20,000 copies. I think the Platinum requirement in Japan is a minimum of 10,000.

I'm pretty sure the requirements are much higher than that. I can think of quite a few 3rd party 360 games released in Japan that have sold around 10,000 yet have not gotten Platinum releases. I think the requirement is around 20,000.

And last time I checked, I think the MMP/PS bundle only managed to sell about 7,000 copies, though may be closer to 10,000 now.

I'm betting this is just unsold stock.

Where do you guys get the requirement numbers from? Whenever I try to find them I come to the conclusion that Microsoft considers games for Platinum based on some internal criteria and not just raw sales. It's hard for me to think something as niche as Galuda 2 sold more copies worldwide than the majority of X360 titles. In terms of raw sales shmups should be easy to outperform.

Pretty much every 3rd party 360 game released in Japan that has sold more than/close to 20,000 copies has received a Platinum release. And I'm pretty sure that the criteria differs from one region to another.

According to Famitsu sales data, Espgaluda 2 managed to sell 18,800 copies by the end of 2010, and since Famitsu doesn't track every single retailer in Japan nor does it track online retailers (and by extension, import sales), I think it's safe to assume that Espgaluda 2 managed to reach 20,000 copies sold. Since it was region free, it's also safe to assume that a larger number of people imported it compared to the average Japanese-region 360 game, thus a higher number of copies would have been sold online than average.

VGChartz says otherwise: http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales-da ... nk-sweets/
I believe they're pretty accurate when it comes to game sales.

If the requirement is around 20,000, why would games like Super Robot Taisen XO and Chromehounds get a Platinum release? Unless they slowly sold more new copies purchased from online vendors or other sources that were not put into a public database. I'm not doubting 20,000 as the requirement since it actually does seem pretty likely. Perhaps some games that come close are reprinted in hopes to potentially sell more copies for cheaper.

I'm open to being proved wrong or corrected since I may learn something new.

VGChartz is a banned site on NeoGAF due to them often making up sales numbers. I personally wouldn't trust them. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427771

As for games like the two you mentioned, they were both near-launch titles and 360 exclusives (probably funded by MS). They were released back when MS was trying really hard to gain Japanese support. I think those factors had a lot to do with it. Recent history has shown that their requirements for Platinum in Japan have gotten a bit more strict since then.

For sales analysis of Japanese games, I highly recommend you use Garaph instead. Their numbers are based on actual Famitsu/Media Create data, and they don't add educated guesses http://garaph.info/softwareindividual.php//gid/4721

MMP/PS's LTD sales as of the end of 2011 should become available within the next couple of months when Famitsu releases the complete 2011 sales data of all games released this year.

That said, the "Ten Week Totals" number that VGChartz lists doesn't seem too hard to believe, the "Lifetime Totals" number on the other hand seems way too optimistic.

Hi everyone...

Long time since been on, bought thhis when it came out but had a couple of heart attacks, a triple bypass then 3 stents Nov so not been great.

Just booted this properly for first time in a very long time (moved house just after buying it) and settins have reset and need some decent settings for a 16:9... So far using zoom 100/100 and 112/112. Any other tips?

Also what does wide do as I can't make it do anything.

Belated Happy new year to you all

Damn dude, hope your recovery is going smoothly. I'm not entirely sure a out your widescreen setup, is it in Tate? I'm pretty sure that turning Wide Mode OFF is for when using 4:3 in Tate.

Just played MMP at an arcade in Kendall, and I loved it. Most fun Cave shmup since probably, well, ever.

Would definitely get the 360 version one day if cheap.

One recently went for $90 on ebay. Definitely worth it: two games in one.

Oh yea, I was rather shocked when I saw how much this is going for now. I do think it's still worth it even at a slightly inflated cost due to multiple games and arrangements. I wouldn't pay a premium for an unused dlc code though, as that's the one arrangement I really never got in to.

Hope that works out, these games are awesome enough to deserve it. Although I wonder how many will be snapped up by resellers. :P

That's great news since I missed this one during my hiatus from video games. I really enjoyed what I have seen in MAME and would love to get a copy for my 360.

Region free again? If so, I'm so there.

Edit: seems odd that Play Asia wouldn't be aware of this and - holy shit they started doing free post to the UK? When did this happen?

Does it require kinect or is it optional, and is it really worth buying (and playing) purely to get DDP?

Not if you are okay playing MAME. No reason to torture yourself to get a game that is already available for free, and is most likely a more accurate version.

I still haven't used my code. Pink Sweets fucks me hard enough that adding in extra bosses would be akin to punching myself in the dick.

The code is for Muchi Muchi Pork, and adds Pink Sweets bosses. Also, it doesn't work that great since there's no "bomb-shield" to help you out on any of the attacks. Kinda regret using my code, actually
