mmkay.
Arcade: More "colorful" graphics than Genesis port (maybe that's why he seems more 'cartoonish' as dpful said). Remember that mini-boss Russian powerhouse in the first level who blew up after a few strikes? In the arcade version there's a real short animated sequence of him getting hopped up all Bane (Batman) like with tubes and stuff. In the Genesis and PS1 ports it's different, no short sequence at all.
I remember when I bought Strider for the Genesis a few months ago, I had played Strider on the PS1 and then immediately played Genesis Strider. I was really amazed to see how little difference there was between the two; of course there were some differences (robo ape's head bleeds after dying in Genesis version, not PS1's), but overall I was taken aback by how close they looked.
Whereas when I played arcade Strider at Big Lots (only reason I go there is for the old arcades...Crime City, whoo), as soon as I started playing I said out loud "Holy shit! This is nothing like it!" and was given cold stares and weird looks by some customers. Maybe the arcade version had more details in the environment, a few extra buildings, I dunno. All I know is that I firmly believe that the PS1 arcade "port" is nothing more than a slightly "prettied up" port of the Genesis game -- SANS BLEEDING MONKEY HEAD
I can't remember if the robo ape's head was bleeding in the arcade version. I know I died a few times trying to see if it did after I killed i and it blew up with the bullet spray.
Oh, but AFAIK the audio sounded pretty much the same. So yeah. But it was the colorful graphics and detail that really got me!
