Sigh...Does that mean no insect queens or gothic lolita girls? Well, not exactly.

Anyways, I really wonder how a Capcom vs. Cave would turn out. It could be like those Touhou fighters, or Cave could probably implement some non-shmup moves for a change. You know...just to make things just a little bit fair.

Re: Capcom vs Cave, and localising Death Smiles
I just hope that if we do see more Cave (or other modern shmup) titles appearing in the mainstream, in the west. The general videogame media goes a little beyond the old "infinite continues, 20 mins of gameplay WTF?" attitude. It is the medias perception of shmups that is probably the single most damaging thing to our hobby in the west.
In a perfect world Shmups would still have the worldwide appeal of the 2D fighter games. There is no reason that a western FPS fan could not learn to love shmups if they are marketed in the right way.

Re: Capcom vs Cave, and localising Death Smiles
Hey a fighter published by Capcom's not that farfetched. I mean, Raizing made Tatsunoko vs Capcom. And a non-shmup isn't farfetched at all either. Cave does all sorts of wacky shit now like SMT MMORPG.
This game would be so fucking awesome. It could star Jedah's demonic savior baby, now old enough to be identifiable as a princess. Ah shit, just make a new Darkstalkers game.Taylor wrote:Darksmiles: The Vampire Princess confirmed.
IAMP is seriously like the best doujin game there is. Others like Melty Blood, Ragnarok Battle Offline, Every Extend, Trouble Witches, etc became commercial releases. IAMP deserves a shot.Aru-san wrote:It could be like those Touhou fighters

Re: Capcom vs Cave, and localising Death Smiles
Problem is that SWR is more popular, especially with the release of 12.3, and thus that would probably see a release over IaMP, even if it is a less technical fighter. I'd rather see the shmups on some arcade hardware, but it ain't gonna happen till after ZUN dies.

All the talk of localising DS is promising (dunno what I'm going to do with the JP copy I bought in anticipation of getting a JP 360...) it sounds like trying to find a niche in the western market is really on the agenda.
Then again any business doing there homework will know whether they have a following - however small - on different shores. Maybe they think it's just worth taking a punt.

FUCK YES MAKE IT HAPPEN. Count me first in line to get it. Tell me where can I preorder. Given the amount of PC doujin shooters it would be nice to see the kings claim the crown.Maybe even to your PC
So, yes, I'm threatening my friend to get/cooperate to purchase Futari for the 360 so it wouldn't hurt if I could help by getting a PC port too by myself.
And fucking Raiden IV PC with the ships included, Cyberfront. Get your act together.

Too bad we also tricked him into believing we're a bunch of wapanese MAME-playing bums who would rather "collect" a digital download of an already available game than try something new.Taylor wrote:I think he's gone insane after we tricked him into believing there was a shmup market outside of Japan.

I Like the idea of PC releases since windows has outlived every console i've ever owned. I'd get a copy on Steam even if I had the console version for that reason. Steams not a bad service either.

Yeah, too bad the Steam client is horribly bloated and consumes more than what Firefox ever will, though. Else I would support that.agustusx wrote:I Like the idea of PC releases since windows has outlived every console i've ever owned. This is good news but I don't want to get ahead of myself, which I'm already doing. People are going to pick the Kotaku article to pieces and dig for shit, basically, until things are cleared up in the future. I think it's time to sit back and chill for awhile until at least the end of October.

Keep dreaming. The media is terminally stupid when it comes to arcade games, and will continue (HURRR) to be for the indefinite future.mr_m0nks wrote:I just hope that if we do see more Cave (or other modern shmup) titles appearing in the mainstream, in the west. The only way it would change is if they release a port that has no continues, at all, ever. Or maybe limited to 3 continues max.
Chances of this happening are pretty much zero.

Re: Capcom vs Cave, and localising Death Smiles
If it comes out for PC someone could make a hack/patch for the games to allow such restrictions. Kinda like how Torus Trooper Pure turned Torus Trooper into an impossible monster at 15.000 km/h. Or how Cloudphobia was patched and ditched all the advantages (invincibility, infinite time, etc.) and now forces the players to play the Full Sequence if they even want to see the later stages. I can't remember properly but I think a Game Over is absolute there as well, you have to start all over.
And there is always the option of trolling Cave enough to make it an official game mode. Now that we, the people, are being considered by the watatatata, a "Rambo mode" or something like that could be possible!

The game comes with 20 continues (1000yen bill through the change machine @ 50yen/play or a quarter roll @ $.50/play) and after you run out you have to buy more from PSN or XBL. Free play is unlocked after you 1cc the game.Udderdude wrote:Keep dreaming. Re: Capcom vs Cave, and localising Death Smiles
I'm pretty sure you're underestimating the terminal stupidity of the media. If they released a game with no continues or 3 continues max, they would simply shred the game as impossibly difficult. Take a look at some of the old review for Gun Valkyrie for the Xbox, for instance. If the learning curve of the game is longer than the review period, the game is an impossible, disappointing failure, whether or not the reviewer has bothered to make it to the second level.nZero wrote:The game comes with 20 continues (1000yen bill through the change machine @ 50yen/play or a quarter roll @ $.50/play) and after you run out you have to buy more from PSN or XBL. I personally like the idea of pay-to-play PSN/Xbox Live Arcade games, probably for nostalga's sake, but these are the same venues that bitch and complain about $10/$15 arcade game. Pay-to-play probably wouldn't go down to well with the public... The 1cc idea is a nice touch though.
