Yes, but this debate doesn't need people like him. I thought it was only fair to stop reading his post after this:

Because he clearly hasn't paid anyone else the courtesy of actually reading the thread so far.
Nice one, trying to ignore my main point (that there is, in fact, a lot of use for a PS3) by sticking to one line... which was inspired by you earlier in this thread:

PS3 ... but there's nothing to play on it, and most of the games mentioned above (SF Remix, KOF 12, SFIV) are all getting 360 releases.
Still, in 2009, you're saying there's nothing to play on it, but forget to add that you have an extremely picky taste on games and unlike the majority of gamers, you also have an Xbox. I don't have an Xbox, so KOF 12, SF4 and all those releases are important for me. And don't I remember you been very content with MGS4 in the game's threads here?
What's with these "no games" accusations then? Because YOUR friends happen to have X360's and you want to play network games with them? The world doesn't revolve around you. You made a bad purchase, just sell the thing, and don't keep starting these provocatively named Sony-bashing threads. Thanks.
But you were also right, I didn't read this thread thoroughly. You did have good points about the network community's growing importance somewhere between all the plain Sony hatred. Indeed the Live community is MS' most valuable asset, it's easier to sell the next generation Xbox to players who already have accounts and data ready and have formed gaming clans or tribes or whatever. Will this happen in time to affect current gen? Probably not.
Turrican also had good points about Sony's labile position in the market. They need to get their network community act together and fast. Also, the Playstation stores are still quite primitive regarding usability and content; Sony is losing money all the time because people can't find the stuff they're looking for amidst all the dlc crap, or it's not available in their region (the shmups...)
Sony is trying hard, though, so I wouldn't write them off yet. Little Big Planet is an awesome product and maybe the only game I would call truly "next gen". It takes the gaming culture forwards instead of selling the same old shit in a new bag. Also, 3D tech is moving forward:
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2009/01/08/son ... ch-at-ces/. And maybe the new rpg's (White Knight Chronicles, FFXIII, Demon's Souls) finally convert the japanese and they start buying PS3 by the millions! (no, probably not).

But Shocky, Sony NEEDS people like you. I wish I were excited like you and I envy you. As much as a sony fan I am (I was a sony fanboy way before PS1 hit the market

), I am so annoyed by the unappeal-ness of the games and PSN available right now... that I'm only waiting for a reason to buy it. Look, I've got the money right here, ready for Sony. But no cake. And I've got x360 (which I am enjoying very much thank you) and a Wii that I can't play because it's way too blurred for me (Zelda is a MAJOR pain look at).
Yes, to win this "war" (*) Sony would need a lot of flaming fanboys, or any people who actually make noise. Now, I'm going to theoretisize, and it may make some people upset, be warned: One reason that X360 is doing so well is that it's fanbase is the noisiest and most impulsive. The more intellectual types choose PS3 because of reasons that we discussed earlier. They try to see the big picture, but fail to make enough noise to draw attention. By noise I mean forum topics like this one, that aim to corrupt the PS3 public image, and filling the internet with Halo-drooling and lame "PS3 = no games" FUD. This is how the Live community gets stronger, nothing unites people like a common enemy. Noise also means promoting exclusive games. If Demon's Souls was an X360 game, there would probably already be a thread here about it by some hot-head Xbot (nothing wrong with that!) =)
It's true that there haven't yet (according to my tastes, at least) really been any ABSOLUTE, MUST BUY gems for PS3 other than MGS4, but the catalogue and line-up are looking good and diverse, the gems may appear any time (personally I'm waiting for Yakuza 3). I don't think there will be enough of these exclusives to make X360 owners buy a PS3, unless they want to watch Blu-ray movies OR the classic happens; their Xbox breaks down outside guarantee and they get pissed off and get a PS3.
(*) In fact, the war has already been won, by everyone who's content with their console of choice. It doesn't matter at this point who has sold the most consoles, the numbers of all three consoles have reached a critical mass and games will keep appearing. I don't even believe cross-platform development hinders PS3 conversions all that much. Then again, one has to remember that the number of sold X360's is not directly comparable to the player numbers, because QUITE FUCKING MANY XBOTS HAVE HAD TO BUY TWO OR MORE CONSOLES BECAUSE THE SHODDY THING DIED ON THEM.
