My PS3 is collecting dust :(

Great DVD/Blu Ray player, duff games console. I shelled out against my own advice expecting to get something out of it, but I've been disappointed for nearly three months now.

It's 2009 and still doing squat to even pretend like it's any good.

Have Sony been and gone from last chance saloon, or is that ship yet to sail?

Discuss, PS3 owners, what do you think - is this gonna turn around in 2009 or what?

I'd buy a PS3 for Time Crisis 4.

That's my only reason, so I'm not actually buying anything.

We are on the same boat except mine is 4 months old. Wanted to play Valkyria Chronicles and Dark Night Chronicles, but both titles seem a little not up to hype. Will eventually buy them when they hit the bargain bin, along with Gundam Musou 2

my only interests currently in next gen gaming is the fighting games...which are available on both platforms.....and i dont plan on playing online much

i will be buying a PS3....it costs more but it also has the bluray drive.....and it wont red ring....

but mainly cuz my g/f wont shut the fuck up about soul calibur 4

i will be happy with the SF titles and blazblue...and any other fighters i can get my hands on....if i want shmups i will play PCB's

i will probably just get a 360 down the line cuz they are cheap and i do wanna give l4d a spin.....zombies....hellz ya.....but it will be modded as soon as i open the box

the only game i've really played on my ps3 is ninja gaiden sigma. every time i buy a new game for it i get bored and put it down. it's a great blu-ray player though.

my wii is even worse though. haven't touched the thing since a week after smash brothers came out. my xbox 360 gets all the love.

The games I've played so far are:

Valkyria Chronicles - awesome game! Don't judge it by the demo, it gets much more complex.
Siren: New Translation (Blood Curse in EU&NA?) - not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. ^_^
Dead Space
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Folklore - beautiful game, interesting story
MGS4
DMC4
Silent Hill: Homecoming - there goes my beloved silent hill series, those bastards ruined it completely...

And I'm quite pleased so far (except for SH:homecoming of course),but I have to agree Sony is sleeping this gen.

Mine been collecting dust since the day I bring it home in November 2006

I have some of the download shooting games and play them on seldom ocassion, and play the occasional round of Tekken Tag or VF5 with my VSHG for fun once in a while, but it is by far my second least used console right now just ahead of the Xbox original. I also actually just like driving around playing the Gran Turismo demo too.

I do want to get Valkyria Chronicles and Little Big Planet, but I have no money… my money is so horrible I have consider to actually sell my PS3, my first console sale since I sold my 3DO 13 years ago…

I use mine. Not as much as my 360, but enough to warrant it's purchase. So far I've picked up and/or played through:

Uncharted
Siren: New Translation
Little Big Planet
Mirror's Edge
Dead Space
Valkyria Chronicles
Resistance
Resistance 2
Haze (hey....it was cheap! $5!)

Also grabbed a couple of interesting PS Network DLable games. There's some good original content on the PS Network. Pixeljunk games, echochrome, Everyday Shooter, etc etc.

I have yet to figure out if the ps3 is just really well built compared the xbox 360 or...
ps3's just don't break down much because they hardly get played.

Anyway I don't own a ps3 but there's some real gems in it's library like...

uncharted
ninja gaiden: sigma
valkyria chronicles
Not really gems but the halo clones like the Resistance series and upcoming Killzone are pretty good.

This isn't enough for me to justify owning a ps3 over an xbox 360 though. However, mark my words: Valkyria Chronicles is going to go up in price really fast in a couple years if it doesn't get a 360 port. Seriously this game could end up being the Panzer Dragoon Saga of this console generation.

In fact when this console gen is over I'm picking up a ps3 for ninja gaiden: sigma and valkyria chronicles alone.

I had a blast with SSFII HD Remix. Now waiting for a bug patch followed by SFIV.

I guess there's not really any reason I have a PS3 rather than a 360 (pretty much just the Gundam game and Disgaea 3) besides the latter's debilitating failure of a system design though. And with Jaspers popping up, I'm getting one any day now.

I don't know what Sony is waiting for. They need to put out a title themselves that truly demonstrates the superior core managing capabilities of the PS3 (besides GT5). Nobody else really has an incentive to fully unlock the PS3's potential when it's cheaper and more efficient to dummy down to the 360. If Sega never supported the SS by porting any arcade title it had, you can bet that platform would've died a lot sooner.

360 gets the RROD because MS maxed everything out. The CPU is clocking its maximum speed at points generating the most heat it can without melting. Unfortunately it sometimes does just that.

I use my PS3 for alot of things but rarely games. Its not that the games are crap, its just that they do nothing i've not played a million times before. Even 360 and Wii would bore me as well.

I did like Dead Space, Wipeout.. But again nothing new here. Prince of persia was alright but a bit easy. Even RE5 looks like 4. We need something new that isn't like Mirrors edge

Well since I got my PS3 the game's with the most play has been:

Wipeout HD - for me this was the reason to own one.

Resistance - was a very bog standard FPS. Put me to sleep.

COD: World at War - I made an awful decision to get the PS3 version, cos all my mates are asking me to join in online games - but they're all on Xbox live!

And...that's it, haven't played anything else on it really.

What I want to know is if you guys think this machine has had it's day in the console race. I haven't even gone back to PS Home after realising what a god-awful debacle it all is, and I was sort of expecting that to be some kind of saving grace.

The thing I do like about the PS3 is the crispness of the image through HDMI, it's definitely superior to the 360 elite - but there's nothing to play on it, and most of the games mentioned above (SF Remix, KOF 12, SFIV) are all getting 360 releases. If I want decent online games, I'm not going to make the same mistake I did with COD 5...?

I don't understand people complaining about something they bought.
I think that they should complain to themselves: they bought something they didn't and don't need.
I can buy a ds now and then complain that I never use it; duh! where would I ever want to use it? nowhere, so I don't buy it

people complaining their xbox rrod'd, why did you buy it in the first place? you knew this was going to happen!
People buying a ps3 hoping the game they fanatasize about would get released, wake up.

Come on Ceph, this isn't an argument anymore - I own the system now. This thread is legitimately asking whether or not this console is ever going to get into the runnings properly. It's 09 now, it had a sucky xmas, and the PS3 shelves are decreasing in size every time I walk into stores.

I played Mirror's Edge but gave up on it after five stages - it's far too flawed.
You named Wipeout HD, and for my money, it's the best reason to own a PS3 - but it won't last forever.
MGS4 is really an aquired taste - although I quite enjoyed it, most people seem to utterly hate it. We can agree it wasn't the game to shift machines everyone thought it would be.
Little Big Planet I couldn't get on with at all. I can see the positives, but its one of those games that threatens to either reap hours of your life or just leave you thinking "wtf am I wasting my time with this for?"

LBP = Gaming equivalent of Facebook: Dull.

We also can't ignore the fact that online gaming is playing a huge part this gen, and it's damn frustrating to have the PS3 version of a game when all your mates have the 360 version.

I really can't wait for Team Ico's release, that will at least breathe some life into the proceedings.

Things aren't going as bad for the PS3 as the doomsday news (and fanboys) seem to announce. The 360 may be beating the PS3 in America but it's a fierce battle in Europe and it's an uphill battle for the 360 in Japan. And who knows, maybe people will start flocking to the PS3 once Sony drops the damn price on the thing (or bring back BC at the current price.) Remember that the PS3 and 360 were selling about the same per week before MS started dropping the price.

PixelJunk Eden is brilliant, absolutely the best downloadable console game to date.

Afrika/Hakuna Matata is pretty good. Not as good as it could have been - the loading times are a fucking joke and make me wonder what th hell the initial data install was for - but still good.

Ferrari Challenge is decent, too, if realistic(ish) racers are your thing.

I don't give a rats ass if a game is an exclusive or not. they can port Blazblue to every system known to mankind, just as long as I get to play it on my ps3 one day.

Blazblue, I'm holding my breath now..............
sf4 will suck because the online will be broken as hell and nobody will play the ps3 version making it an offline experience, which is ok, I guess......

So from a general gamer's (non shmup fanatic's) point of view, PS3 had a very good year in 2008 and got a higher percentage of great games than the other consoles.
