You are splitting hairs here. Okay, Tama was not a new direction, but Uo Poko was. And so was Loveny no Ehon (as you acknowledge) and so is Deathsmiles (which you don't).
On the subject of Deathsmiles, it is a new direction not because it's a hori, but because it will play very differently from Ikeda's games. This I learned by reading the Ishimura interview translation on some site called gamengai.com. You should check it out when you get a chance, it's rather cool!

Yeah, Cave works slowly, so holding our breaths is not advisable. But they do try new stuff, and they are bound to make a move to consoles one day or another. If mediocre games like MileStone's and Warashi's shooters can make money on consoles, Cave could make 10 times as much if they were smart about it. I think that the day they leave behind the SH3 board and move on to something more suitable for quick and easy ports will be a great day indeed.
