This is great news and I'll be picking up for sure. On the other hand, I've already got the GameCube disc, why can't they throw Radiant Silvergun a bone? I'd love to see that get some re-release love over Ikaruga, which is not only recent, but already available in the US.

As I understand it, emulating the Saturn isn't so simple. There still aren't any really great emulators that'll run RSG on computers (well anyways), let alone another console.

I've been emulating it perfectly with SSF for months now. Never had to buy RSG or a Saturn.

Heh, I wonder if my poor outdated computer could run it. Not that I care, as I have RSG =/

Seems there is a very strong chance of RSG coming to the 360.

Sounds like it could turn into RSG HD...

"However, he mentioned that it would be a much bigger undertaking, as Treasure would like to actually redo elements of the game -- basically, enhance it with high resolution visuals to make it more current."

I was about to post the RSG HD news myself. However, I am not sure a vertical game in horizontal orientation is that appealing in 16:9. Any thoughts? Would be a bit squashed, mind if you have a 40" screen I suppose thats a mute point if the sprites are small.

I guess "redo elements" means that they are pretty much aware of this. Since the upcoming Ikaruga XBLA is also vertical we will soon see how they handled this issue. Also if they go 720p (or even 1080p) a smaller playing field shouldn't be that much of a problem.

I would much rather they focus on the new shooter for 360 once they're done with Ikaruga (since in the interview they said part of the hold up for the shooter was that a lot of the guys were working on porting Ikaruga).

Well, the positive side to it is that by porting and enhancing the older stuff they get familiar with the hardware and the whole XBLA system. The more they learn the better the new shooter will be...hopefully.

RSG uses a horizontal display (4:3). Just put some wallpaper on the screen edges and this shouldn't even be an issue. It'd be no different than watching normal TV signals on a wide-screen TV.

I did say horizontal orientation Kiken.

Looking at my laptop which is 16:9. I can't imagine playing RSG on it. The height is 10" or so. Which is almost half the ratio height of 3:4 vert for the same sort of screen size. Have you seen how fast RSG scrolls on some levels, like the manic 2 boss chase through the maze sequence. That would be hard as fuckin nails

It's easily compensated for if you increase the resolution. The premise of 'High Definition' is that you'd have a decent sized screen anyway.

The 360 is looking better every day. Also it's got all these extras that the Dreamcast didn't have like Red Rings of Death!

Haha but seriously if they eventually use better parts I'll buy one right away.

While I don't think Kotaku is a reliable source for information this one line in their "report" does indicate that it might turn out to be the definite version of Ika :D

"Players of the original version of the game who were present at the time agreed that the visuals were head and shoulders above the original."

Hmmm...

Ika's graphics were never done justice really. For the most part the graphics had far more detail then most CRT's could display (well, mine - i never had played my versions through a monitor).

To seem them in true HD should make them a real spectacle.

The game's graphics were done plenty of justice. Play the DC version through VGA.

They are using better parts now. If you buy a system manufactured recently you're safe (and hell, even if you buy an old one they're fixing all RRoDs for free).

Agreed, I mean playing it on a DC version with VGA is amazing. This is the only way to play Ikaruga in my opinion other than on a cab. This game is a work of art, it's funny when you play it in on VGA 'cause you notice things you didn't before like bullet shape, and the multiple colors of bullets and your ship.

There are HD (Cam) vids of Ika XBLA on Gametrailers now.
Looks like they did a nice overhaul - smoothed out jaggies, put in better textures and got rid of the slowdown during the boss explosion at the end of each chapter - nothing fancy, still looks brilliant :D
Oh and...some gameplayvids of Omega Five too! Another one for the box

Looks like 360 owners will get some tasty treats. That last game trailer looks promising, though it seems a little repetative

@Frederik

Yes, it was but after watching it so many times over and over it lost a little bit of its badassness...

I kind of like the slowdown during the boss explosions, it makes them more dramatic.
