Ikaruga on XBLA

Post by Necronom »

Looks like Treasure's arty and uberhardcore spaceopera is on its way to the 360...nice :-)

that's interesting... I wasn't expecting that to happen. never really thought about it.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Very nice :D

Even if this is not release outside of Japan, I wouldn't mind too much buying it with Japanese XB Live account on my US machine. Really do hope that it comes out here though.

It surprised me too, but thinking about it now it doesn't seem that surprising any more. Ika is small, easy to port, and should still have a solid amount of western players. It's also nice to see that (in case it really happens...) this way it won't be restricted to the "underdog" systems any more - no more bootdiscs, no more shitty pal version...and for all the people who played the pirated copy on their DC in order to avoid the annoying bootdisc: time to give Treasure the money they deserve!
I hope they come up with some nice achievements and maybe some extra eye candy though the VGA-DC version already looks like heaven...
Anyway, I really hope this is just the beginning since Treasure is also working on an original titel for the 360.
P.S.: I'm pretty sure it will be worldwide...there's really no reason why this shouldn't be the case :D

Cool, but I have this on Dreamcast and on GC. I dont' need it again and I'm in the minority when I say achievements are stupid.

Add this in with the additional news that was released that Treasure is working on an original 2D shooter for the Xbox 360 and I am now 100% satisfied with my console purchase (even though I already own Ikaruga on the DC/GCN).

Treasure is my valentine. ;)

With that said, the only thing that would make my day any better would be if someone finally announced a Senko no Ronde localization effort...

Maybe they'll get Radiant on there as well before the last part of the trilogy is released.

+1 X360

And there are going to be achievements for it! Achievements! Yes! This is awesome incredible news! Hopefully we will get even more shmups for live arcade! Just think of what could happen if other companies released there backcatalog of shooters on Xbox live! With the release of Sympony of the Night Microsoft has gotten rid of the size retrictions! We could get titles like Ketsui even!

with Ikuraga and seko no rondo x coming out the 360 is starting to look more and more appealing. Most likely the next console i buy will be the 360.

@Arznei
Hehe, I guess many of the casual players will be quite surprised when they see the scores just a few days after the release :-)
Since this is no FPS or racing game I personally see no problem here. M$ should put in an option to record a run which can then be shared with the newbies...and no, I'm not talking microtransactions. Sharing replays should be free. The fact that the game is displayed tate-style is a little bit problematic, many people own widescreen displays and might find the black bars at the sides annoying. When the gamecube version was released many ignorant gamers complained about this...Let's hope some nice artwork or a redesigned HUD can fix this for the yoko gamers.

Ketsui would be great but somehow I suspect that Cave doesn't really give a damn about shooters outside of the Japanese arcades. Senko or Under Defeat would be nice too.

I felt a disturbance. As if millions of ebay sellers and collectors cried in pain, and were suddenly silenced... (Sealed Ikaruga for 90 bucks? WTF?)

Here's hoping for a shmup revival with stuff like this and Geometry Wars! While I prefer actual hard copies of games, I'll still gladly take a download if it's around; the hopefully lower price point will be just another bonus.

Finally, the end of two-stick shooters is in sight for the XBLA.

But I have 3 sealed DC versions collecting dust in my closet! I was hoping to retire off those things!

You really think it'll bring the price down? I recall similar discussions popping up when re-releases and such have been announced (most notably the Sengoku collection's possible effect on the Saturn Sengoku Blade)...I haven't kept up very closely with the market, but I don't recall seeing any re-released game's original port bottom out after the re-release comes out. Granted, I wouldn't mind if this did happen, but...

Final Fantasy Tactics non-GH can be found for less than 40 dollars now a days, from being 100 before the GH re-release. I hope that Valkyrie Profile for PS1 also drops due to the PSP release.

Being a collector is nice. Being a hoarder/scalper isn't. And Ikaruga isn't rare, AFAIK. I do hope the price comes down, though there will always be someone willing to pay 100 USD for a copy of NES Super Mario 1 if it's labeled as "Rare" and "OOP".

If Radiant Silvergun comes out for XBL, I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from buying a 360

I guess there are always a few cases where that happens...I guess you never can tell though, as several of the Final Fantasy games have been released at least twice, and the originals still go for a nice chunk o' change (and at least as of now VP ain't going anywhere, heh heh). Of course, those are all RPG-type games...has there ever been a shmup whose price has been affected in that way? Offhand I can't think of one, though as I said I don't keep up with prices too closely.

I don't think re-releasing games in download form will make the actual media price go down. For example, a few Zelda games have been released for the virtual console for the Wii, and yet the Zelda Collector's Disc and Zelda Bonus disc are still selling for $50+.

But unless Ikaruga got released on another console in a physical media form, I don't see the price dropping much. Street Fighter 3:Third Strike DC version used to be in the hundreds on eBay, but once the PS2 version hit, the DC version plummetted in price. I sincerely believe it is because it was on physical media.

To say it bluntly, collectors want the actual media, gamers want the cheap re-release.
