I don't know if we still vote here for games, but I choose for Konami week : Sexy Parodius and Thunder Cross II (my captain forced us to choose Thunder Cross II).

For the Konami week, the only game I suggest is Thunder Cross II, because it's the only one I can play more than 5 minutes before falling asleep/hitting the escape button. For the manic week, I know this is obvious, but I suggest DoDonpachi and Battle Garegga.

Wasn't DDP used in a tourney a little before STGT so it's ineligible until next year? As for Battle Garegga, it depends on how the participants feel about invisible bullets and abusive rank systems.

I think Bakraid/Batrider would fill the bill better than Garegga... result in far less broken controllers as well.

I'm the least qualified to make a choice in Konami week, but yeah, I'm on the fence on the Parodius series. I like them until I die and I have only my pea shooter.

Here are my preferences for Konami Week.

1. Xexex
2. Salamander 2
3. Gradius III
4. Detana Twinbee
5. Sexy Parodius

I think Thundercross II is maybe a bit too easy/straightforward?

Salamander or Life Force would be cool too, but I'd prefer Salamander 2.

Well, we played Batrider last year, so that's probably out.

Bakraid might be cool, but I bet getting a bunch of people to try to play that game for score is a good way to get a bunch of people to hate Bakraid.

For hidden gems week:

Change air blade is horrible to play 1 player. Randomness really ruins an already terrible experience. And to top it off, its boring.

Eco Fighters is another flat out boring game. Easy, sparse enemies, you have an infinite shield.

Basically what zakk said. Bakraid is all fun and games when you're only trying to 1cc it (piss easy on normal mode), but the scoring system is complicated, tough and difficult to learn, second only to Dimahoo within Raizing's catalogue. I think for novices it would actually be far more frustrating than Garegga in a competition, where scoring is much more straight-forward.

Also, Garegga looks and sounds waaaay better than Bakraid. ;)

When I first read about Dimahoo's and Battle Bakraid's scoring systems, I was instantly put off and decided not to bother with them at all. That all changed when I was 'forced' to play them during STGfan's STG Weekends (one game is selected for the whole forum to play and compete in for one weekend). Once you actually try, you'll see that they are tons more rewarding than most of the games selected for this tournament.

Multiple scoring sources (chaining, medals, milking) makes for varied gameplay, and that in turn makes it easier for new-comers to adapt. My impression is that they are far more straight-forward than Battle Garegga (which plays like shit in MAME) because of milder rank - you can apply new scoring tricks to your rounds without having to replan your entire route for the rest of the game. That's the kind of game I would like to see in STGT. Complex and concentrated games, where teams really need to work together - deciphering scoring systems, and sharing strategies. I would love to have Bakraid in the tournament!

What I wouln't like to see is multiloop games like Gradius. :?

Did sexy parodius not qualify for the 2nd place week?

I'd imagine we'd be more likely to see gokujyou parodius or da! for konami week.

Afaik the tournament tourney mods are not going to put Sexy up for vote in 2nd Place Week, but rather in Konami Week.

^Turbo Team has poor taste.

For Konami week I want to play Ajax so bad. Either that or Twinbee.

I'd be cool with a Twinbee game for Konami week. They're up there with the Parodius games for my favorite Konami shooters; and I haven't put much time into them at all. This would be a great excuse to do just that =)

I wouldn't mind playing any Twinbee for Konami week. The arcade version of the first blows away the Famicom version.

Well, Batsugun is probably the last game I would want to see there. Would much rather see Outzone or V-V, but the no sound in MAME thing for the latter is no bueno.

I hate them both, but I'm pretty sure the rest of namako would be more than happy.

I'm not sure I want to spend a whole week figuring out how to milk axebeak and then entire stages of suicide->bomb->suicide->bomb->suicide->bomb etc. Because that's all Bakraid will be.

Also the score chart will look something like this:

"normal people" [insanely huge gap] "axebeak milkers" [another large gap] "able to suicide+bomb chain the next boss"

Just popping in to mention that Salamander 2 works fine in MAME. You just need to have the proper BIOS, konamigx.zip, in your ROM folder.

I want raiden fighters 2 for Saibu week.... b/c I actually have it on PCB. my first PCB shooter yay!!
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Funny, the way I see it is no matter which games are chosen, the score chart will look something like this:

"people who work for a living and can only play a particular game 3-5 times a week" [insanely huge gap] "people who have no life/job can play for hours everyday"

It's not how much you play, it's how well you can buckle down and realize what you need to learn as well as how quickly you can correct and prevent the mistakes you are making. ; )
