Thanks for the info. Bummer. I assume then it's the same when viewing it on the PSP where a small part of the 'toon is cropped. Of course, watching Homestar on anything but a computer is kind of dumb, but the curious tech/gadget nerd in me has to know what it's like, ya know?

I just picked up R-Type III, and I think it plays fairly well with the Classic controller. So far I have not noticed any major graphic issues (the Mode 7 effects are flawless), although some of the sound effects do seem a little muffled compared to what I remember. The slowdown is there, too, and in all the right places.
Did anyone download Xevious? I'm curious to hear how that turned out before I score it.

As for Xevious, you really must play it in tate. The Wii version will definitely suck compared to, say, the version for PS1.

So, Contra III came out today in the US. I love this game, but my only disappointment is the complete inability to use my Hori Digital pad on it. There is no button config on it so it's so awkward to use that there is no point. The classic controller is great though. There is a lot more slow-down in some points than the original also. Otherwise, great game.

I think he means it's unusable because the button layout is horrible. I made the same mistake last night. Basically, B is jump, A is bomb and Y is shoot. Not really conducive to a twitchy run n' gun and there's no option to remap the buttons in the game. Now I have to go buy a classic controller just so I can play it.
I've got a few other SNES VC games and the Gamecube/Wavebird d-pad works fine, it's just small. The Hori pad is much better.

On the bright side, I think you will find the Classic Controller well made and quite comfortable to use. Pardon this noob response, but I am an aspiring shmup player and I have a few questions about the VC. Having been pretty seasoned in Ikaruga, I got Soldier Blade and R-Type for the VC and I was really impressed. I am reading complaints that it isn't perfect emulation of the TG16, which bums me out. I was wondering, is getting a TG16 for these shooters worth it even if I have the games on VC? Also, I noticed too that the Wiimote's buttons are inconsisten in circuit communication when the batteries get low. Is there a good controller (Besides the Hori pad) for GC that can substitute it?

I'm glad it isn't. Classic Controller kicks the SHITE out of the GC controller. And besides, the CC technically has everything the GC controller has, except an extra shoulder button I think? No, I agree. What I meant was, why isn't it a GC-compatible controller? Then you wouldn't have the wackiness when the Wiimote's battery is dying (which fortunately hasn t happened to me yet), and programmers wouldn't have to support GC and CC controllers separately (which may have prevented some of the Metal Slug Anthology bullshit... or not.)
If nothing else it would have made an awesome alternative to the Hori pad for those who couldn't find (or don't want) a Wii.

ah, yeah, I see what you mean =) Though, the metal slug anthology retardedness would have still been there. You would have ended up using that analog stick on the CC, since the d-pad wasn't supported on the Gamecbue, I don't know why it would have been if the CC was a gamecube controller.

Galaga (NES) recently came out in North America. Hudson's John Lee says that Blazing Lazers is about to hit us upside the face soon.
Lotsa nifty stuff came out in Japan: Galaga '88, Final Soldier. A release of Gradius 2 FC is pending.
Also a new version of the browser came out recently, though I have no idea if the flash implementation was changed/improved any.

Yes, I tested some of the old broken links. The random game crashes no longer happen and the A button problem is now fixed. But now the new problem is the Wii doesn't have enough memory to handle the full length of some of these games. I haven't retested the full list. I'll get up on that soon.
The browser is stuck at flash 7 because after Adobe took over Macromedia's stuff, they stopped releasing the development code to other parties to implement flash 8 & 9 into other stuff.

Many people outside this community might feel that the VC is a cheap gimmic. I must applaud the efforts of Nintendo to host some of the non Nintendo brand products. This is just another reason to love the Wii.
