Well there's the stuff CIT mentioned, but for some reason nobody mentioned the excellent Dicing Knight. An action RPG with English on screen text. Winner of the coding competition from another year.

Also there are 4 shmups on the system, which can't be said from a particular recent generation games console and a hugely popular recent handheld. And 3 of them are triple A titles.

-Judgement Silversword: Rebirth Edition

-Judgement Silversword: Cardinal Sins* (just as awesome and possibly even more manic, with seven stage themes losely based on the seven sins)

-Run=Dim (the only hori of the four, nice but can't touch the JSS's or E-force)

-E-Force* (also by M-Kai of JSS fame. Caravan style game which REALLY is a tour de force for the Wonderswan - absolutely amazing what's on screen and all the different weapons (even lightning, flamethrowers and stuff) make this even more amazing. Stunning! :D

Wow, smack me silly. I always thought that was another one of those FMV-heavy graphical adventures. So I guess there's just 3 sidescrolling games on the PC-FX, huh? Or is there another one that hasn't been mentioned?

That I have there's:
01. Vajura Fight: Zenki
02. Chip Chan Chick
03. Rulirulala (sp?)
04. Imperial Prince

*thinks really hard* I"m 90% certain thats all there is. Granted, I LOVE Zenki, Chip Chan Kick, and Rulirulala, those games are a lot of fun.

Also, Rulirulala has a lot of small FMVs in it... yes, but its still a platformer style game.

Wait wait... lemme' guess, every game you just mentioned is going to run $100+.

Also, the Wonderwitch will be $300.

*sigh*

RUN=DIM costs about $80, but is really, really hard to find. I have never even seen one for sale anywhere other than yahoo auctions.

All the Wonderwitch games are freeware, and instead of buying the (expensive) WW you can just emulate them (of course you won't be able to play them on the WS that way).

There's more WW shooters, for example some KentaCho games were ported to WS.

I've been really lucky then snatching up 2 copies of it last year, and let me tell you it wasn't on yahoo. ;)

I've got a spare one, used and 95% mint (very small rip on print of carton boxone, including the mech construction kit (still sealed) for grabs. PM me if interested. It's less then $80 too.

Just no postponing this time. ;)

so, the Wonderwitch will be $300.

*sigh*
I'd say it's less and you can get JSS, E-Force, JSS:Cardinal Sins, Dicing knight for free after that and play them on their native platform too. It was a very nice purchase (again I got two now :D).

I've never heard of E-force. I'll have to keep an eye out.

My RUN=DIM was a lucky find then... I got mine while wandering around in Hong Kong 2 summers ago, only cost me HKD$130 or something...

The box got crunched up in my suitcase though :<

How much does the Wonderwitch Player for the Wonderswan Cyrstal cost? I'll definately have to pick up these games at some point; new Wonderswan Crystal's are pretty cheap on Ebay.

[soldatoj's lust for JSS and RUN=DIM increases]

Why oh why did I not buy RUN=DIM with the figure at NCSX or Game Choice Club (whatever it was called) when it was around...

Well, I got my Wonderswan today. Its a FF LE Wonderswan... so I don't think its a Wonderswan Crystal. Would a Wonderswan Crystal have been better?

At any rate, um... still no Judgement Silversword, so still no clue on if I'm keeping it or not (that now I'm leaning towards keeping it). All I have is Final Fantasy to play... so... I guess for the next 3-4 days I'll be playing through that in Japanese...

Interesting little machine though. How does the TATE work? Do you use the Y buttons to shoot and all that? Hopefully so, as using A and B would be very... bizarre.

I guess if I do keep it I will look into some non-Nihongo friendly games. Already looking around for RUN=DIM. Might look into a Wonderwitch, if I can figure out where to get one, and then snag E-Force and the other JS game since I hatehatehatehatehatehatehatehate emulators.

I think the Crystal had a better/redesigned/brighter screen. Someone please correct me if I am wrong--no time to google right now..I remember that I waited for the Crystal to come out and held off on a regular swan color for that reason

Yes, Crystal > all the other Swans. I had a chance to try my JSS on a regular WSColor (I only have a Crystal myself) and the difference in image quality is immense.

And yes, that's how you tate the system. Works great, if only the buttons weren't a bit crap.

Y buttons for movement X buttons for 2 types of shooting and the shield.

Tell that to the makers of PSP Star soldier. ;)

So the one I have is a Wonderswan Color? The Final Fantasy LE? Or... is it a Crystal?

Curses, now I have to buy yet another Wonderswan system.

Mine has the TFT screen... but it isn't backlit. Should the screen be backlit?

I'm so confused. This is the frickin' PC-Engine all over again.

I got my swan crystal and judgment silversword in the mail today. Man I've gotten spoiled. I forgot how shitty non backlit handhelds are.

The game itself is totally badass, but i still am undecided if it was worth the money given the wonderswan system itself. The lack of a backlight is really bugging me, as is the small size when holding it in tate mode.

Another good chance to mention Mash-Mods, who are selling frontlit Crystals. Sure it's more expensive than a vanilla Crystal, but if you want to go all the way...

Just a keychain. It was sold together with the JSS reprints.

Stick with it, though. I had the exact same feelings about the system when I first laid my hands on it, but now I love it. It *DOES* look somewhat more like a toy than a handheld console, but it just oozes quality nonetheless.

Only thing that puzzles me is that they took away the headphone option from the Swancrystal. Could have used it plenty.

IIRC all Wswan had to have a special set of headphones--no standard jack

As fucking great as Judgement Silversword is... I fucking hate the Wonderswan and its buttons and its non-backlit screen.

And I must say, JS is a highly interesting game. Because despite the fact that it is physically PAINFUL to play it thanks to the horrendous design of the machine it runs on... for some reason... I keep playing it. :?

Is the SwanCrystal designed better than the SwanColor? My hands (index fingers actually) cannot take much more of this.

And is it easier to see shit in this game on the SwanCrystal? Because half of the time I'm getting killed by bullets I can't see thanks to the completely shit screen.

At any rate, if I can say anything about JS it is this: I wasn't expecting it to live anywhere near up to the hype... but by God, despite the shittiness of the Wonderswan... it does. Best.handheld.shmup.EVAR!
