Judgement Silversword: Rebirth Edition

Post by Palmer Eldritch »

So, after two years of tracking this somewhat elusive bastard, I finally found a (brand new no less) copy last week. :D

Excellent. Been playing it over the weekend and it truly does shine.
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but am I playing it in tate?

Moved to Shmups Chat.

Well, you're playing the game so that the screen is taller than wider, so...yes, that's tate.

And congratulations on finding the game, it's a gem.

Christ, I must be tired. Where did I create the new topic?

Well duh! What I meant to ask is whether or not it´s true tate (if such a thing even exists)...I guess I´m just amazed at what the Wonderswan´s pulling off in terms of sheer technical wizardry here.

Thanks. It´s excellent. And I can play it on the go. :D

It was in Off Topic.

What is "true tate" if not this? ;) Wonderswan's designed in a way that makes vertical games effortless to play, after all. Works great with Tetris, too.

Come to think of it, all my WSC games (whooping two of them) are in tate...I've never used the A and B buttons.
Thanks. It´s excellent. And I can play it on the go. :D
You can? I find the SwanCrystal's screen so crappy I can't see anything unless I'm directly under a light source. Unless, of course, you have modded your system with an additional light.

No that was figuratively speaking. :D Screen´s only optimal under a direct lightsource, especially for JS.

No modding for me on this one.

Congratlations on finding this superb little game!

If you feel like playing a little competitively, then take a look here and feel free
to post your high scores. It should not be that hard to beat mine at least ... ;)

150 bucks?! This shmup must really be something, given that it isn't even on a handheld that's back-lit, for it to cost that much! ZanacXZanc isn't even that expensive.

Don´t mind it at all. $140. I would probably have paid even more if that was indeed the price, but I just got lucky here, I guess.

Methinks Zanac and Border Down both could be in 150 territory in the next couple of years...

PS Thanks Palmer

Probably, but whatever floats your boat. It's too bad that it's so tough to capture gameplay footage from handhelds, otherwise it would be nice to see some Super Plays of this game. I have seen some videos of it before, and it does look pretty fun. Isn't there a PC version that's cheaper then the WSC version? I wouldn't mind getting a WSC, as they're pretty cheap, even new, but other then JSS and Dicing Knight, I probably wouldn't get any use out of it.

Rainbow Islands, and Makaimura are other worthwhile games for WS. Mr Driller, too.

Langrisser Millennium: The Last Century for the WS is also a worthy SRPG true to Langrisser roots.

Speaking of prices, I saw JSS for $75 new with that wristband thing just a few months ago but felt that someone with more interest in the game ought to get it. You can find it cheap if you're lucky and patient.

Cool, thanks! :D So, are there any good videos of this game up? I thought there were at least a few at one point-like on Jigsawman's FTP site, or something.

People be careful!!! Don't shell out ridiculous amounts for this game!

Judgement Silversword got a 2nd printing in Japan at the end of last year, so the price for the game has fallen considerably in Japan. I got my copy brand new for $70!

The reprints have the logo of "Happy Field Project" on the box and before the game starts, other than that there is no difference. The first print versions now run about $100-120 in Japan.

As for the game, it is the best portable shooter, period. A brilliant mix of Star Soldier and Giga Wing that really milks the WS hardware for all it's worth. The gameplay is extremely score-centric and you will not be able to finish it without getting dozens of extends.

As for other Wonderswan games, check out Rhyme Rider Kerorikan, it was made by the dude who made Vib Ribbon, and does amazing things with the WS. And the screen is in fact held diagonally! o_O

Yep. That´s the one I got. The HFP logo is also in the game as well as an updated copyright saying 2001, 2005.

Yeah, thanks for the tip CIT. I will keep a hopeful eye out--in the meantime any forum-goers please post here if you happen upon a cheap JSS...

Keroican was one of the games I meant to get from Matt Boehland and never got around to it; have not seen it since

Yeah, thanks! :D Are Play-Asia or any other import stores stocking this reprint edition? I'm just wondering where the best place to look for this game would be; I've never seen it on Ebay.

Indeed... I too would be interested in acquiring this title.

Whats the best model of the WonderSwan btw?

Edit:
Damn you all, I just bought Judgement Silversword. -_-

Now I need to buy a Wonderswan.

JP, the best Wonderswan is the Swan Crystal (much better screen, etc--it was the last iteration of the handheld)

I want this too--please reveal sources for cheap version (relatively speaking) someone!

I'll second that, I'd like a source for this too. Don't have the system to play it on (yet) but that never stopped me before. 8)

edit: And not wanting to get the thread too OT but anyone here play the WS Klonoa?

Alright, since you all asked so nicely, here's a new 2nd batch copy of JSS with a strap for $76 + around $10 shipping:

EDIT: gone

Not sure how many copies are left. But as CIT stated, please note that this is a NORMAL price for a sealed JSS in Japan. It's just that there's so much ignorant collector demand and irrational exuberance on Ebay and other non-JP communities (absolutely no offense meant to you folks who were truly that interested in the game to pay that much) that prices are sometimes unusually high online.

Stupid question: is there any sort of notable difference between the "regular" Judgement Silversword and the "Rebirth Edition," or is the latter just a plain ol' re-release? or are they one and the same?
