Actress Loni Anderson died today and was age 79. She's the famous blonde featured in the classic comedy show "WKRP in Cincinnati"

That's very sad. I was a WKRP fan as a kid, and I really liked her character. She had a great rapport with the cast.

I have to admit though, I often found myself mixing her up with Farrah Fawcett outside of the context of their shows.

I'm also dealing with a lot of the care aspect so it's all very draining. When this all started in November, the doctor thought 5-6 years but I don't think it will end up taking that long. We shall see. Just trying to enjoy the better moments that still remain.

You have my sympathies, it's brutal seeing a family member stricken by cancer. You want to be able to spend time with them in case the precious time left with them is short, but if you're a fair distance from them geographically and they need care, it can be both mentally and physically exhausting. Really, you should be able to enjoy your remaining time with them as much as possible without feeling like you have to play caretaker, but it can be difficult because obviously as a family member you have to be there to look after them where possible! Finding a good balance where they feel looked after and have their needs met while preserving your own sanity is tough. We're especially fortunate not to be in the USA where any kind of healthcare needs could potentially bankrupt you.

My mom's had cancer for several years. Originally it was just a scare of breast cancer but it came back aggressively in her back and pelvis, fractured bones as it grew. It's apparently being managed with drugs currently; I don't know if it's technically considered remission but she's still going fairly strong despite it looking bad at one point like she'd die. We're trying to spoil her as much as possible and keep her happy, but it was tough watching her have to resort to using a walker when she was physically fit for most of her life, but it's kind of an appreciate every day you have sort of thing. We've gotten into playing Wordle as a family each day sharing what words we guessed, it's the little things that keep you happy and going.

Yeah I'm definitely doing a lot of care giver stuff. Which I'm ok with but it is a lot. I already have some experience with it from when I came back to help my mom when my step-dad needed lots of additional care (Parkinsons among other things) before he ultimately passed in 2017. Don't even get me started on the bills. My brother is also learning disabled or w/e you want to call it so I am handling all of that. There are several frustrating things I could share about the bill aspects as well as dumbfuckery with the medical system itself. But it's best not to. I remind myself that these people are largely overworked. Most of them mean well. There is one woman involved I would say that is not true of.

That's really difficult with your mom, sorry to hear that Roo.

Giorgio Armani, 91, who made a fortune by branding non-descript/common pieces of wardrobe (e.g. jackets, jeans, etc.) with his own logo and selling them at pointlessly high prices (thanks, 1980s). HIs advice on fashion was always a perfect example on how appropriation (cultural, social, etc.) and rebranding can make fortunes out of thin air. My favourite is "dress in dark blue - it is the only sober and elegant colour", which is a centuries-old "fashion proverb" of sorts commonly taught across European cultures. Nevertheless, fashion press pundits spent decades trying to sell it as Armani's genial intuition, at least in Italy., also because Giorgio greased them handsomely.

Yes, the famous actor/director Robert Redford passed away earlier this morning, 9/16/2025, in Sundance, Utah, at the age of 89. I didn't realize that he founded the famed "The Sundance Film Festival" (and the "Sundance Film Channel" as well) many moons ago. He won an Oscar for best director at the 1981 Academy Awards show for directing "Ordinary People" (circa 1980).
