PatmanQC, best known for those history of all those good video games, recently passed away. A damn shame too, because I loved his videos.
Aww man. That's a bummer. He had a good sense of humor.
I had no idea he had an illness that took its toll on him. I wanted him to do a history on other games like Time Crisis and Virtua Cop before he passed.

It's very sad, and he was still pretty young IMO.

However, in these situations, it can help me to understand the context of the situation. It doesn't make it less sad, but it's less shocking.
Wait, how old was he when he passed?

53 years young.

The obit: https://www.vanhoe.com/obituary/Patrick-Davis

He came down with a severe case of pneumonia in 2015 that was so bad it required all of his hands and feet to be amputated. Since then, he's been kind of in and out of it. He got very sick again a few months ago and just didn't pull out of it this time.

Gaddam.

Ozzy is legit one of those people I would rather be surprised to hear was still among the living, but I suppose that is more a testament to the effectiveness of his stage persona more than anything else (well possibly also his rampant drug abuse).

I'd like to imagine that he's out there somewhere fighting the war pigs and ridding us of the true evils of the world (mostly capitalism).

Chuck M was a pretty amazing dude.

Hogan entertained a lot of people, and I have a lot of memories of watching him wrastle up the baddies on WWF and popping the juice for McMahon. He was certainly a force of nature, tho I think that had deserted him in the end.

Hope his back pain is over now, wherever he is.

I recall watching the first-run theatrical 35mm print version of Rocky III on the big screen -- showed some up-coming movie attractions and then a Pink Panther cartoon short. After the PP short was shown, it was time to show R-III in it's entirety -- even Hulk Hogan makes a cameo appearance in it. All this back in 1982.

Chuck Mangione's extensive and repeated cameos in King of the Hill always struck me as the weirdest and funniest inside joke ever, even if I didn't get the joke, lol. Godspeed.

As for the Hulkster, he's one of those people I always figured would be around for a long time. But the wear and tear of the ring seems to leave very few wrestlers make it to their 70s.

Looking for a clip to post here I just discovered or found out about the King of the Hill appearances - hopefully that broadened musical horizons for some people who otherwise would've never heard him or a flugelhorn for that matter.
Here in this short documentary; around the 6 minute mark, Chuck relates that the hippest thing people say to him is his music has been a stepping stone to more complex jazz. I think that holds true to my own experience. I vividly remember it was the summer of '92 when Nine Inch Nails and Ned's Atomic Dustbin were what I was gravitating to, and a stoner friend broke out Feels So Good on his turntable while we were hanging at his bayside apartment - probably life changing.

Idk. I think maybe his epic-level juicing probably did a real number on his heart.

And one more music legend left us this week: Tom Lehrer, known for songs such as The Elements and Poisoning Pigeons in the Park, passed away yesterday at a respectable 97 years of age.

My dad and his brother absolutely loved that guy. They used to sing those songs together when our families got together on the holidays after having a few.

Now this one hurts; equal parts brave, clever, and ahead of his time. Seems we will not, in fact, all go together when we go.

Wasn't really sure where else to put this but probably my brother soon. Not the one that also posts on here. As much as my dad passing did impact me heavily this is hitting me pretty hard. It's stage 4 cancer which is obviously brutal in general.

You are not alone. I lost my brother-in-law Monday due to the same illness, after having lost my father-in-law a few years ago in the same manner. In both cases I could not fly to my wife's hometown due to work problems; please exploit all the time you have now and be sure to wave goodbye with your mind at peace.

Yep it's brutal. I have a couple people I regularly chat with that went through it or currently are with family members. I'm also dealing with a lot of the care aspect so it's all very draining. When this all started in November, the doctor thought 5-6 years but I don't think it will end up taking that long. We shall see. Just trying to enjoy the better moments that still remain.

The Florida medical examiner whom did Hulk Hogan's autopsy results revealed that he died of a heart attack. He was 6'7" tall making for quite a towering and imposing figure indeed.

Yeah, Hogan shot a metric ton of steroids into his veins back in his WWF-WWE heyday. Juicing is really bad for your long term health, and can lead to cardiac issues and a whole host of other shit. When Vince McMahon went on trial for dealing roids, Hogan admitted to juicing on the stand, and saved Vince's life by shielding him from the DEA.

Stand-up dood and a really real role model. No Holds Barred baby. Though I loved that stupid movie when I was a kid.

The 'Real American' music video was iconic back then.

Ah... Steve Shives released a video talking about his feelings about the moment, what wrestling and Hogan meant to him as a kid, reflecting on how this was one of those things that burnt out his trust and child-like innocence as he grew older and less ignorant of the kayfabe of the world.

Greg Valentino's rant about the 'follow the rules and eat your vegetables and one day you can be a movie star too!' stuff is relevant, as it always is..

Yeah. I mean, me and my friends used to push the couches together in the living room and make our own "ring" so that we could reenact our favorite moments from the match ups on Saturday morning. I started loosing interest when their image became dirtier and I definitely felt like there weren't really good guys and bad guys anymore, but just a bunch of bad guys fighting each other. It also felt like maybe they were trying to match the increasing age of the audience as the 90s rolled by and things got more edge-lord or whatever.

But yes, I completely agree. I felt betrayed by the wrestlers that I idolized as a kid and wasn't willing to accept that it was an issue of growing up or anything. But also, as I got older, I realized that they were victims as well. Some more than others for sure, but that entertainment machine wasn't run by them. Vince really ought to have been held responsible.

Thank you for sharing Steve Shives. I've never watched his videos before, and I like the FF First Steps one already. Also, he's a Maryland guy, so local to me.

Play by the rules indeed. I have a complicated relationship with the whole concept of competition. They say it brings out the best in people and drives innovation or whatever. I can't say for sure that it doesn't do that at all, but I have developed the impression as time goes by that it simply breeds hate and distrust and pushes people to break the rules that they agree to play by.

Hanging in there. Helps to have places to vent.

One thing it has definitely brought into focus is how much crap I have. I've got rid of quite a bit since this all started. Unfortunately he doesn't want to get rid of anything, so I'll have to deal with that afterwards.

Actress Loni Anderson died today and was age 79. She's the famous blonde featured in the classic comedy show "WKRP in Cincinnati" -- she was in the first Cannonball Run + Stroker's Ace movies with Burt Reynolds as well. She was married to actor Burt Reynolds at one time but went through a bitter divorce with him and has been married four times altogether. It's been said that Loni was naturally a brunette but dyed her hair blonde (even though she really didn't want to do so but she kept up with her trademark "blonde" appearance that she was so famously well-known for).

Actress Morgan Fairchild tweeted -- "She (actress Loni Anderson) was the nicest person I ever worked with."
