It's pretty clear that bwod1e was speaking figuratively, folks. As someone who has a deep understanding of - and attachment to - what this series is about, or was once about (if I do say so myself!

), I
obviously appreciate that none of the Metroid games are RPGs as far as the narrow thinking behind genre-labelling is concerned. Again, my comments were simply affirming that Super Metroid almost
inadvertently captures a lot of what people look for in that genre with great finesse. I haven't elaborated on those points purely because there are a lot of RPG fans here who would doubtless think that I'm asserting their favourite games are somehow redundant.
Anyone wishing to discuss the series further might want to check out IGN's Metroid board. There are quite a few us there who like to discuss in detail the series' art direction, gameplay, music and... well, everthing else. I realize how horrifically snobbish and conceited that sounds, but there's really no elitism involved. In fact, most of the folks who regularly post there are quite eager to share their understanding of this franchise's artistic vision with the new kids on the block, with their shiny copies of Hunters and machine-gun volleys of bewildered questions...
You may ecounter just a
little bit of anti-Prime bias from the likes of me, though.
