BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
It's no coincidence that these boutique collector-based publishers are all run outside of Japan and liaise with western devs and/or international devs with western presence.
You also have to remember that they're generally taking cheap games and selling them at a higher price; M2's making a point of pricing Garegga much higher than the average retro re-release and they're not going to drop the price for the sake of a western distributor, nor is the distributor going to want to sell an obscure game at a premium.
Best case scenario, M2 puts it out on a disc later on for the diehards to rebuy (and let's not kid ourselves, they'll do it). Anyway, wouldn't you be annoyed if they launched with a disc only for the game to be broken in some stupid way that requires immediate patching? I'm content to wait and I have faith that it'll happen at some point.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
If there's any physical release in the works for this port, I fully expect it to be in the form of some compilation with Dangun and whatever other games come in the Shot TriGgers series.
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
The thing is, both games seem to cost 40$ (if Dangun doesn't, sorry). If there were to be a compilation that includes those two and some more, it would either cost 150+ bucks (like that Cave collection on 360), or wouldn't come out in a loong time, maybe after the price drops for every single game in the series. If it ever drops.drunkninja24 wrote:If there's any physical release in the works for this port, I fully expect it to be in the form of some compilation with Dangun and whatever other games come in the Shot TriGgers series.

As someone who'll always go for physical media, that's my ideal too. Getting the game out is first priority; if a disc does appear later, a reissue sounds like a good way for both M2 and fans.GSK wrote:Best case scenario, M2 puts it out on a disc later on for the diehards to rebuy (and let's not kid ourselves, they'll do it). If they think there´s enough demand for it (and I believe there is), they should release a physical edition immediately in stead of later.
If they don´t they´re basically fucking over real fans. I know am getting the physical DBCS, but would rather have had it from the beginning.
A 3000 or 4000 copies release should be profitable. I´d pay $80 or more for it and am pretty sure more than enough other people would do too.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
What is a "real fan" in this context? Someone who cares more about collector's value than the fact that we're actually getting a quality port that is financially viable for the developer?Super Laydock wrote:If they don´t they´re basically fucking over real fans.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Yeah. A "real fan" already has the game so it's only the extra junk (dev. book primarily) that's of any interest.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
It's a compromise, to be sure. But if that's what it takes for a dedicated port of a legendary shooter to be viable on disc these days, so be it. I'll happily go with this arrangement rather than expect M2 to gamble for my sake. I am a fanatic after all!Super Laydock wrote:If they think there´s enough demand for it (and I believe there is), they should release a physical edition immediately in stead of later.

In this context it means people willing to pay the extra for the game and yes having a physical copy is more value than a digital download.Keres wrote:What is a "real fan" in this context? If they only release it digitally... no problem I´d get it too.
But like with DBCS releasing a physical copy only after all people interested have bought it... that´s fucking people over and asking for people who are the "real fans" to pay twice for something theywanted in the first place. (real fans isn´t the best term I realise now, but for the lack of better I use it again).
Yeah I know...BIL wrote: Never again is what you swore, the time before... ♫

Having a Saturn doesn´t mean it´s always convenient to hook up just to play a game.Eaglet wrote:Yeah. A "real fan" already has the game so it's only the extra junk (dev. book primarily) that's of any interest.
I sold my copy long ago btw, because I didn´t play it on my Saturn due to this reason.

Everyone prefers a physical copy because in secret they think if the world goes full fuck (soon!), every video game company in the world and the internet itself down, at least they'll still be able to play the game if they can find a working power line somewhere, even if just an emergency generator.
(people will fight over a can of gasoil for the chance of playing a few credits of Garegga, you all know it'll happen. there will be temples and priests also)

When's the PC version coming out?
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
If it's about convenience, wouldn't a digital version be more convenient, at least after downloading the game?Super Laydock wrote:Having a Saturn doesn´t mean it´s always convenient to hook up just to play a game.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Convenience in this case to me means having the console hooked up already and not fiddling with cables and getting things out of boxes if I want to play it.Shepardus wrote:If it's about convenience, wouldn't a digital version be more convenient, at least after downloading the game?Super Laydock wrote:Having a Saturn doesn´t mean it´s always convenient to hook up just to play a game.

My PS4 is hooked up, so that means convenience if I just have to put the disc in.
Yes DL is even more convenient, but DL is worthless compared to physical release which you could play anytime you want even without servers up and possibly resell if needed/wished for.

Ehh that's too bad. Guess I'll just continue to play it for free in MAME. Ports of 20 year old games are not enough to make me buy a modern console.trap15 wrote:Likely neverpegboy wrote:When's the PC version coming out?

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
Not gonna lie, when I saw that this was up for pre order I was about to jump right on it no hesitation, but as soon as I was informed that it doesn't have a physical disc, I dropped it completely. I'm going to assume that the Japanese public downloads everything and no longer cares about physical releases.
It sucks cause there are alot of people out there who still rather hold a physical game than some download code

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
What's really ridiculous about this to me is just the opposite. Japanese are not all about downloads at all and still prefer physical media, I would say more than the US or Europe.KaiserFoxHD wrote:Not gonna lie, when I saw that this was up for pre order I was about to jump right on it no hesitation, but as soon as I was informed that it doesn't have a physical disc, I dropped it completely. More than a few wii and ps4 and.Vita releases have been physical here and digital elsewhere.
Edit: Live in Japan
Re: BATTLE GAREGGA REV.2016 (M2)
I'm only really bothered about buying the physical version of a game if I think I'm going to sell it on. This will no doubt be a keeper so I don't care. If anything it's more convenient as I don't have to swap discs. Yes, it may disappear from PSN eventually but what are the chances of a PS4 disc working on PS5 anyway?
If you're passing on the LE because there's no disc, fair enough but if you're refusing to buy it altogether you're a knob. No wonder M2 can't afford a print run.

The website was updated with details on screen options (yes there's tate, in case you had doubts), the "gadgets" that display on either side of the screen in yoko mode, the leaderboards, etc. It also confirms full button config, bullet colour switching, etc.
They also updated with a full list of retailers carrying the LE: they intend to start putting them together after October 20, so you only have a couple more weeks to place an order. (They haven't announced the Amazon-exclusive tchotchke but BEEP's getting a replica PCB box, 1983 is getting a M2 calendar with photos from Garegga and Sega 3D Classics, etc.)
