I think Go is probably aimed at collecting your GPS-tagged location data, which seems above and beyond what the other services currently do. Certainly that's what Senator Al Franken is concerned about.

So, is Nintendo swimming in money with this, like Capcom was with Street Fighter 2 arcade boards back in 1991?

I heard that Nintendo gets only about 30% of the revenue, but that's still quite a bit.

Now imagine instead of imaginary animals it would be real people.

Central Park Vaporeon is this real life? Also, has anyone seen any actual children playing this?

Yes. They're taking over the world with yet another incredibly simple but undeniably clever gimmick. As I alluded in the NX thread, the next major moneyspinner with them is always just around the corner. What I don't like is that they're still spinning Pokemon. I'd have liked to see them pull off a similar feat with a new product or IP.

Anyway, everyone has gone nuts for this.

I've spent a lot of my time playing Ingress, so I don't really have interest in this, but it's funny seeing like loads of people playing this for the first time, it reminds me of myself a few years ago.

Now I want a Splatoon-themed game where you paint over the real world.

That article would be mostly fine (she greatly misunderstands just how massive Pokemon Go is) if it weren't for the last paragraph, that's a really gross misunderstanding right there.

I don't think it would have had a 1/1000000 of its popularity if it wasn't Pokemon though. Sony tried it with robots or whatever and that failed. Making a "Pokemon clone" isn't any different either, is it?

I am not being facetious now. I'm afraid the sort of "urban games" anticipated by Duds Hunt manga or Seventh Victim story by Robert Sheckley utilising smartphones are inevitable (if not already happening).

The last 2-3 paragraphs is the difference between introversion and pathological antisocialness.

I declined and resisted the temptation to add that a pokemon was probably not the only thing I'd catch if I went with him.

Hey, is everyone going to catch that Mew at the McDonalds Pokéstop? Man, I sure love going outside thanks to Pokémon Go. Let's have a lunch break over at McDonalds.
