Pokemon Go
Re: Pokemon Go
I think Go is probably aimed at collecting your GPS-tagged location data, which seems above and beyond what the other services currently do. Certainly that's what Senator Al Franken is concerned about.
Re: Pokemon Go
So, is Nintendo swimming in money with this, like Capcom was with Street Fighter 2 arcade boards back in 1991?
Re: Pokemon Go
I heard that Nintendo gets only about 30% of the revenue, but that's still quite a bit.

Now imagine instead of imaginary animals it would be real people.

Re: Pokemon Go
Central Park Vaporeon is this real life? Also, has anyone seen any actual children playing this?
Re: Pokemon Go
Yes. They're taking over the world with yet another incredibly simple but undeniably clever gimmick. As I alluded in the NX thread, the next major moneyspinner with them is always just around the corner. What I don't like is that they're still spinning Pokemon. I'd have liked to see them pull off a similar feat with a new product or IP.Leandro wrote:So, is Nintendo swimming in money with this, like Capcom was with Street Fighter 2 arcade boards back in 1991?
Anyway, everyone has gone nuts for this.

The first one almost happened.atheistgod1999 wrote:Imagine this:
Someone finds a rare pokemon in someone's yard. The person who lives there sees them and either A. kills them for trespassing or being mistaken for a thief or something, OR B. confronts them and tells them to leave, causing the player to kill them because they're that desperate for the Pokemon.
Re: Pokemon Go
I've spent a lot of my time playing Ingress, so I don't really have interest in this, but it's funny seeing like loads of people playing this for the first time, it reminds me of myself a few years ago.

Re: Pokemon Go
That article would be mostly fine (she greatly misunderstands just how massive Pokemon Go is) if it weren't for the last paragraph, that's a really gross misunderstanding right there.
I don't think it would have had a 1/1000000 of its popularity if it wasn't Pokemon though. Sony tried it with robots or whatever and that failed. Making a "Pokemon clone" isn't any different either, is it?Skykid wrote:What I don't like is that they're still spinning Pokemon. I am not being facetious now. I'm afraid the sort of "urban games" anticipated by Duds Hunt manga or Seventh Victim story by Robert Sheckley utilising smartphones are inevitable (if not already happening).

Why am I grumbling, articles like that will never stop.
