Sounds like there is interest, so I'll go ahead and confirm that standard Loop 20 will begin This Sunday and end in one week on Saturday. I'll be playing myself this time.

Keep in mind this isn't URA or No Refuge, this will be standard Death Roulette using the rule set found in the opening post. For new players please read everything there and pay particular attention to the submission format. Please keep your results submission all consolidated in a single post, but feel free to chat in the thread as much as you want.

For those who enjoy the special tournaments, fear not. I still intend to do them on occasion, but it's way too much work to keep them running constantly like standard DR. So until we hit the next major event, just relax and get some solid sudden death practice in. I promise it will help you grow as a player.

---

On a seperate note, we have been using the old restart syndrome randomizer for the past year. This was originally created as a quick fix for "The Quickening" and is far from an ideal randomizer. For No Refuge, I painstakingly created a massive list of almost every decently working auto-scrolling shmup in MAME to replace the restart syndrome randomizer. I would really like to begin using this list for DR, but I don't know how I could create a link that would randomize the list like the restart syndrome one we have been using. If anyone is capable of making such a site/link or can tell me how to do it, please let me know. It will really go a long way to improving DR and future events.

If you've got them all in a list you can paste it here to be randomized.

^Yeah that's how I did it for No Refuge, but the problem is I can't make a link that you guys can just click and immediately get assigned a game using that method. If we did it that way everyone would have to copy and paste it on their own, which is kind of a pain.

If you have access to a website, you can create a specific page on it which does this. Here is an example using JavaScript which I found on the web:
http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/tips/ ... ipt_1.php3
You would basically do the same thing, except the array which should look like this (example): var shmups = Array("Dodonpachi", "Gradius");
Creating a webiste is probably the most time-intensive method to do this, but maybe it could come in handy for other things as well.

This sounds like a fun thing to get me playing new games! I also made a quick web-based script to randomly pull games from a list. Right now it's using the lists provided by Kane (if you have a problem with this let me know).

You can find it here: http://randomshooter.herokuapp.com/

Let me know if there are any features or lists you'd like added! I'll be making it look nicer eventually, I just wanted to get something up as quickly as possible.

It's been allowed in the past, so I assume it's still allowed.

This is awesome and much appreciated. Exactly what I needed. Is there any way you could make a page using this list specifically:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55283

This list should be pretty thorough and I have removed most everything that doesn't qualify for Death Roulette from it. Especially when we are doing large scale events with the stricter rule set it will be really useful. Major major thanks for setting that page up for me.

And...

ぬがよい

Loop 20 Begins Now!

This week we are using standard rules with no special conditions. 5 games, 5 credits, 5 roads to your death.

You can use the provided randomizer or create your own, and autofire is allowed. Standard Loops are more for casual fun than the events so I don't see much reason to force people to use the MAME lists, however if you are using your own collection rather than MAME your list should include a minimum of 50 unique titles. If not either use the MAME list or combine them.

However I would like to start noting whether or not the list was custom or not, So before your submission Please write either "Custom Roulette" or "Default Roulette". The default would be the randomizer in the opening post, accessed by clicking on the Colonel. For this week we will use the old one, and if the new list is ready we will begin using the updated one next week. As of next week and the finalization of the new randomizer I am considering segregating the custom and default boards. I intend to let people play both in the same week if they like, under different submissions. Would everyone prefer this?

Submission format is as follows:

Custom Roulette

ACSeraph - Mushihimesama (360) - M-Type - ALL (5 Stages) - 10 points
True Last Boss Clear! - 5 points
Weekly Challenge Clear! - 5 points

"

"

"

"

Final Result: 37 Points

Default Roulette:

Shepardus - Shippu Mahou Daisakusen - Miyamoto - 3 - 116,781
Shepardus - Tatsujin Oh - 1P - 1 (Boss) - 115,660
Shepardus - Riku Kai Kuu Saizensen - 1P - 2 - 35,350
Shepardus - Darius Gaiden Extra - 2P - 11 - 6,502,480
Shepardus - Zoar - 1P - 7 - 39,310

Final Result: 24 (3 + 1 + 2 + 11 + 7)

Two games I've played (Shippu, Darius), one I've heard of but haven't played (Tatsujin Oh), two I've never heard of.

For Darius Gaiden Extra, should I go with the 2P side or the 1P side? (2P side would obviously be better for me)

Edit:
For Zoar I took each runway to be a new stage; they're pretty frequent (less than a minute between each) but it seems to be the most logical way to divide "stages" in this game and it records how many you've reached in the bottom-left.

That's your choice. Pretty lucky roll for DR actually. Oh yeah I forgot one thing though, I think we should enforce a 2-loop limit from now on. If a game loops infinitely you should stop after the second. Technically Extra is only one uber-loop so I'm gonna say it's legit.

I have no experience with Slap Fight, but for games that list checkpoint areas rather than stages, try to break it up yourself by major area. Hishouzame for example would be broken up by the landing sequences. If you fought a boss and then the landscape changed, I guess you could consider that a "stage". You'll have to use your own judgement a bit.

Default Roulette

Heavy Viper - Tatsujin Oh (MAME) - ST.2 (BOSS) - 355,890
Heavy Viper - R-Type II (MAME) - ST.2 (BOSS) - 122,300
Heavy Viper - Mission-X (MAME) - ST.??? - 15,260
Heavy Viper - 1943: Midway Kaisen - ST.4 (BOSS) - 327,770
Heavy Viper - Dr. Toppels Adventure - ST.1 - SCRAPPED

Used the new "Death Roulette" option in the generator to get these. DECO Cassette game from 1982!

EDIT: Well, I have no idea how to divide Mission-X into sections because it just kept going and going. No bosses, just high-speed bombing action. Toppels Adventure got scrapped because I accidentally flipped the wrong switch on my stick trying to turn autofire on. I managed to get the game to crash due to COIN ERROR trying to fix what I'd done. Go me. :B

Section Z - Stage 1- 1
Chou-Jikuu Yousai Macross II - Stage 2 (boss) - 2
Cosmic Cop - Stage 2 (boss) -2
Fire Hawk - Stage 2 (boss) -2

Final Result: 8 points

All new games for me, didn't go so hot  . I enjoyed Fire Hawk quite a bit, the rest I didn't like as much, but it was fun to do!

Guess I'll roll for this week? Not sure I'll have time until the weekend, though...

Default Roulette:

Shepardus - Zaviga - Checkpoint 18 - 16,702
Shepardus - Prehistoric Isle 2 (Europe MVS ver. 2) - 1 (Boss) - 1,694,700
Shepardus - Mars Matrix: Hyper Solid Shooting - Mosquito 02 - 2 - 417,549,050
Shepardus - Viper Phase 1 (New Version) - 2 (Boss) - 377,146
Shepardus - Twin Eagle Revenge Joes Brother - 1 - ???

I'm pretty sure I did badly enough on Zaviga that it doesn't deserve any more than 1 point, so...
