Yeah even the developers said this on the certain interview, but is it possible to dodge it "legitimately" ?

Reminds me of tv1ks's cube rush clear vid. But I don't think he actually dodge it, I believe he's abusing save state.

Pretty much any run in which you game over while the final boss has like two pixels left on its lifebar.

I swear this has happened to me in literally every game I've ever attempted to 1cc.

Why would you suicide on the Mushihimesama TLB?

Pretty much the only consistently repeatable way to beat the boss is to manipulate it's attack patterns using suicides and bombing.

Looks hard, but with a few tries I could probably navigate that.

It's a fast scrolling section, the escape sequence after beating the final boss. Fast enough that you'd need 3 speedups to make it through there.

That's like the hardest part of the escape too, and once you're past it, you should be in the clear since you're unlikely to collide into anything else.

You actually only need 2 speedups to do it. But yeah, the hitboxes of the ship and stage are not intuitive at all (common theme with this game), and it's very easy to collide in there even if it looks "easy".

Don't think the final escape is really that hard after some practice at it. Collecting three speed ups is probably making it more difficult for yourself. The last stage has much worse parts. And in fact if you die at the escape, recovering at that final checkpoint is very doable, unlike most of the rest of the stage.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Oh God, this. Unfortunately, this miraculous dodging only works when you actually want to get hit.

In Bakraid I swear it's harder to run into the bullets than it is to avoid them.

It's more or less an aspect of certain shooters and not necessarily a single moment. I hate when SHMUPs rely too heavily on power ups, espceially for later stages where enemies and bosses take a lot more hits to kill. Essentially if you die once and lose your powerups later on in the game, unless you are able to dodge everything for a while, you are essentially screwed and might as well reset. I don't except to retain all my power ups when I die, but pretty much throwing me into an almost no win situation without them is just bad design imo.

I still can't get past the Moai in Level 5 using Mode B. Just getting to Level 10 in that game requires Messi-like skill. (Wait, he's Argentine, so I'll use Neymar instead).

One time I was playing Alltynex Second on hard, and I was doing surprisingly well. By the time I got to the final level, I hadn't even taken a single hit yet. Then, the game froze when I got to the final boss. Why? I have no idea.

I wonder if it was inspired by Scramble.
Everyone who has not should go play Scramble and ahem *wait for the drop* at the end of the game.
Doesn't look too bad until you realize there is an invisible barrier and you only get the left half of the screen to move in.

Going by Gradius Generation's intro, at least one Mobile21 staffer would probably confirm this interpretation of the series' genealogy. ^_~

edit: "canon" or not, at the time that intro really expanded my typical NES kid's understanding, beyond Gradius= Konami Hori Year Zero. I think it's very cool they included it!

What comes to mind is being on pace for the Xexex 2-ALL back in an old STGT we had, and crashing into a wall in those corridors after the high speed space stage. It was a controller malfunction.

Most recently, I was a mere 5k points away from breaking 9 million after finally managing to loop Raiden DX's Mission Alpha into Bravo, and I ended up dying on Stage 5. I haven't come close to replicating it since then

Probably have had many. Most recently getting 3.9 million experience in Mars Matrix, but game overing before the clear. Ended with 1.79 trillion points that time, which just added insult to injury, because I hadn't yet gotten the 1.8 trillion at that point.

Konami developed Scramble, so the inspiration is, most likely, intentional.

Successfully dodging a bullet, but the dodge was so close and the hitbox so small, I subconsciously convinced myself I should be dead, so I freak out, do some weird movements and come back around and hit the very bullet I just dodged. Happens the most to me in Gradius V.

I struggle with keeping the anger of losing on video games to myself. But, specially in shmups, it's very brief, as I can restart and get to where I left off pretty easily.

Except for Mahou Otome.

(This is going to sound very lame, but I still love this game)
In this game, you have a "stamina" meter that decreases as you do stages, and recharges very slowly (if you don't want to pay). Stages on higher difficulties cost more "stamina" to play. So, if this weekend's scoring contest is on Hard or Death, you have a very limited number of attempts to memorize the stage's layout, test your different shot types and, of course, get your high score. It's kinda stressful.

Today, this happened during an event where you need to prioritize your "stamina" use to specific stages, so the "stamina" management was extra tight. During 2 of my 4 planned runs, I was hit, thus ruining them. The other 2 had low scores.

Out of anger, my thumb moved on it's own to the microtransaction screen. I bought a couple of in-game currency and refilled my "stamina" meter.

And my final score wasn't that remarkable either :D

For me, it was either a random Metal Hawk crash when I died on the final stage with a pb that beat my final clear score by 1000 and two extra lives in stock, or that one run in Assault where I messed up the stage 11 time bonus and barely missed beating the west record ( at the time).

I did see another one where the person was playing Gunbird; they made it to 2-6 with a decent amount of resources. However, they choked at the boss gauntlet at the end, due to the last two bosses ( the tanooki and the dragon) even when bombing desperately. The next 5 minutes was filled with a swearfest that I'd had never seen before or since.

Managed to reach BHMK2 with 4 lives in stock today, but I got extremely nervous and my hands starting shaking like crazy; I wasn't able to dodge/react anymore and so the run ended up badly, even though I've practiced Glow Squid a lot. This really could have been the 1cc. :(
