Cotton Boomerang also runs very slowly in MAME for me, but it seems to work fine in SSF, albeit with very noticeable input lag. Is it okay to do the run in a different emulator or should I get a reroll for this too?

Lastly, can someone confirm if the default difficulty dipswitch settings on Saint Dragon really is "Easy"? That's what MAME is showing for me but it sounds kind of odd to me so I want to make sure.
It's probly best to just reroll both in that case. Your new rolls are USAAF Mustang and Darius II

ESP Ra. De.
Pistol Daimyo no Bouken
Vasara 2
RayForce
Metal Black
This list is so good, thanks Colonel. I'll probably stream some of the games. Played all of them a little apart from Pistol Daimyo no Bouken, but know I really like the others.

Thanks, both of those work fine in MAME.

Had no idea. Just rolled you Soukyugurentai, which the "randomizer" apparently loves. Guess you can play that instead. G Darius works pretty well in MAME as I recall yeah.

  • Sokuygurentai
    Battle Garegga
    Blazing Star
    Hotdog Storm
    Dodonpachi Daioujou Black Label

Well, this are some fine games. I was already spiritually ready for a couple of week of struggling through the worst kuso-memorizers imaginable.

Sokyugurentai though, it doesn't look like it can run at 100% on my system. I'm getting some pretty noticeable slowdowns. I'll probably need a different game.

Is this a common problem or have I just got a bad rom?

Aiming for a mayhem but happy to get away dodging a crash and burn ;) Good luck everyone!!

Hype get !!
Black Heart
Slap Fight
X Multiply
Armed Police Batrider
Scramble Spirits
I've only played a few credits of Batrider and haven't played any of the other ones before. This is gonna be good 8)

Only the bootleg version of Slap Fight works for me (and I could only get it to properly run in shmupMAME 4.2) but I assume that there aren't any differences between them?

EDIT: I see that the High Score list on here for Slap Fight has bootleg scores together with regular scores so I suppose the bootleg version is more or less the same then. I also noticed this post by Alcon:
Alcon wrote:The arcade version only lists area (stops counting at 255) not 1-xx etc. Some people including myself have referred to loop number once past 255 (i.e 4th loop on my score).
So I'm going to assume that reaching area 255 equals to a 1cc...

Raiden DX
Mahou Keibitai Gun Hohki
TwinBee Yahho!
Darwin 4078
1944: The Loop Master

Well well...
Raiden DX looks good ; 1944 has a sh*tload of stages so easy points if I can endure it long enough ; and Darwin 4078 looks like the worst shmup I've ever seen.
Never played any of those, though.

Good luck everyone !

Quick question. I'm using MAMEUIFX64 0.159 (with the 0.159 roms) and it reports Soukyugurentai/Terra Diver having sound and graphic glitches. Seemed to play ok, but since I haven't played it for reals I can't say if it indeed is ok or not. Anyone know?

Three games I already played against two sights unseen:

Formation Armed F - Stage 3 - 239200 3 Fuck this game and its stupid power up system, bombs and difficulty spike, this bastard manage to ruin my mood this morning.
For the record, if someone ask me to play this game, may be the colonel or some wretched jokester, expect a pair huge middle finger stabbing your eyes because I'm done as well the ROM. Not worthy to pull a 1CC.

Vimana - Area 4 - 402960 4 Other than no sound, this was a mediocre STG with a crappy main weapon (V is cool looking, but not strong) and bomb (not really useful when surrounded). Forgot to mention about how autofire is overpowered in these old games, like if the developers didn't thought about it or it wasn't possible to program in the cabinet.

Fire Barrel - Stage 5 - 609000 5 Nice game, despite the crappy power down thing upon death (it require a lot of picks in order to really damage big enemies).

P-47 Aces - Spitfire - Stage 4 - 593660 4 Dodging bullets in this game is tricky, somewhat like Progear in term of subjective difficulty. With Spitfire is even worse to dodge things, except when it requires macro-dodging.

Cotton 2 - Cotton - Stage 7 - 3888100 7 I don't get the whole grabbing gimmick, as well the power up system. :?
Edit: I manage to learn a thing or two about the mechanics and they are fun. Much less recovering energy by juggling a trapped enemy and the beat'em up-like prompt to use special attacks (on a keyboard is even worse).

All right, I'll do legit now, I didn't catch the condition before. In these days I'll replay the games 'till I rage at the world (Armed F did this to me) and fix the results, so before the end line you shall have the official results.

In this case you'll need to break the game down into standard stages by yourself in order to score it. Can this be done? Generally in the absence of very clear stages (like when your plane lands in Hishouzame) I would consider major area or scenery changes to be different stages (think Vulgus). If this is going to pose a problem let me know and we can roll a different game.

I'm not so experienced with it so I'm not sure. If you think it runs decently enough you can keep at it, but if you think it's problematic (severe slowdown/input lag etc.) I'll roll you a new game. You can decide for yourself on this one.

I think the music just doesn't work in MAME, it's the same for me. But the game itself plays fine. (You should buy a legit copy if you want to get into it seriously :P )

not with g-darius... ports are either easier or harder, and expecting people to hunt down pcbs (which is a lot easier than hunting down arcades) is a bit unreasonable

PS1 port is fine, and the PS2 port is great. Even if they aren't totally arcade perfect (I was under the impression the PS2 port was damn close though) you can fully enjoy the game with them with no need to buy a PCB. The same can't really be said of MAME. Sound is important to the Darius experience imo.

Code: Select all

Heavy Viper - USAAF Mustang - St. 8 - 1,033,800
Heavy Viper - Soukyugurentai - St. 4 - Type-B - 3,273,800
Heavy Viper - TwinBee Yahho! - St. 4 - Punch Twinbee - 1,273,540
Heavy Viper - Kuhga - Operation Code Vapor Trail - St. 4 - Valkyrie - 471,690
Heavy Viper - Gigandes - St. 8 - 866,900

*SCREENSHOTS TAKEN, UPLOAD PENDING*

TOTAL = 28
Tested them all out in MAME last night and they seem to play all right with no slowdown for me. The sound on USAAF Mustang really has no clue what it's doing, though, which is a shame. And Vapor Trail's appears to increase in tempo the faster you hit the fire button, which is hilarious.

I'm picky about sound okay

So, I can't seem to get hacha mecha fighter bootleg to run. I have regular hacha mecha fighter and the bootleg rom, using mameplus 0.157. Anything I'm missing here? (mostly directed at trap15)

Also Omega Fighter is surprisingly fun. Get's pretty intense in stage 3, though.

I also got this. Seems to work ok for me in MAMEUIFX64 with 0.159 roms, but then again, I'm no pro

Use a newer MAME, I fixed the music in Mustang. Vapor Trail's thing is also a MAME bug, but still not fixed.

Turns out I needed nmk004 bios (?), so now it's working. IDK that it was necessary, but I also upgraded to mameplus 0.159

I think Hacha Mecha Fighter is my favorite so far that I got. Probably will focus most of my effort into it and omega fighter.
