You're correct. I ended up figuring it out last night and I feel like an idiot :)

I set up the scaler where the back isn't easily accessible. Because of that, I had the component connectors pulled around front. Since I didn't have to go around back to plug in my system, I didn't see the other audio jacks. Hehehe. When I finally found them ... after at least an hour playing with settings, it was definitely a face palm moment.

Hey guys sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm pretty new to this. So I just tried plugging in my rgb modded snes jr into my xrgb mini using this cable and this converter. I get sound, but for the picture all I get is a blue screen that says no_input on it. I'm kind of lost, so I'd like if some one could tell me where to start.

Tested 3 different cables with american snes:

Lastly plugged rgb cable into framemeister ;)

Has anyone had the chance to try out the Sync Blaster Black Box yet? I know BuckoA51 is planing to review one soon. Just curious if anyone else has yet.

Can anyone recommend a good/tested PSU from eBay? I really need a good one for the framemeister, getting noise is getting tiresome... TIA! :D

I to would like to know. I'm still getting noise with RGB even though my Surge Protector has EMI/RFI filtering up to 50dp.

Are you sure that the power supply is what's causing the noise?

What method did you use to RGB mod it? Did you wire up CSYNC to pin 3 of the AV Multiout?

Ahh, so I think I may have found the culprit that is causing the interference. When I removed the Nyrius SW201 Component switcher the noise was less noticeable. Then setting the A/D Level to 139 while setting Black to about 3 or 4 causes the noise to be non existent. Not a bad picture too considering the cable being used is Component through the PS2 which is known to be very noisy.

Still nothing beats going completely RGB.

yes, audio noise and some wavy parasite that is visible in darker images... changing to cheaper psu only makes it worse

I seem to be having an issue with my framemeister that I can't get to the bottom of. So a while ago it worked 100%, since then I upgraded the firmware and it still worked, but I haven't done all the same stuff. Atm I'm trying to upscale an N64 over Svideo. It outputs HDMI and works fine on my TV. I can output it into my Avermedia Game Broadcaster HD and my Elgato Game Capture HD. It won't input into either Black Magic Intensity Shuttle that I own (USB3 and Tbolt) and it won't ouput into my HDMI splitter. These are things that work fine with other devices, and my RGB Mini used to work with. I can plug it into a monitor, it works, plug it into a splitter that goes to the monitor - doesn't work anymore. Is there some sort of new setting on the Framemeister about detecting HDMI that it isn't picking up anymore? What could I be missing?

Framemeister and the Nintendo 64

Post by HAR65 »

Hallo, i am a 49 years old gamer from Germany and i am new to this community. Ive got a Framemeister last week and first of all i want to use it for a better experience with the Nintendo 64. After several day of testing and playing around with the Settings, i cant figure out to get rid of a graphical "Problem" which i want to Show you on These Pictures.

1. N64(NTSC), S-Video:
http://abload.de/img/dsc01755-2rhj9p.jpg please have a look especially on the action-Buttons in the right upper Corner. Is this horizontal "frazzling" normal?

2. N64(PAL), RGB-Mod with Gamecube-cable:
http://abload.de/img/fm-paln64jusi3.jpg (from Paper Mario, left with framemeister, right with RGB plugged in directly on the TV.

For the Status tells me, that the consoles give a 240p/288p Output; i used the "recommended" Settings:

Image: Picure
Screen: Normal
Visual: Scale on Game (V-scale on 6)
HDMI-out: 720p/60 or 50

In "movie"-scalemode the borders Look better, but the Picture get blurry (i know that Vscaler6 or game-mode is recomended).

I just want to know, if this is "normal", or if not, if someonte Encounters the same Thing and might know a solution.

Thank you

Seeing that recent LCD TV's dont have a VGA socket anymore, can the xrgb-mini be used to hook a Dreamcast up to an LCD TV using the DC VGA box?, or is there an easier method that doesnt require the xrgb-mini?

DC on the Mini: this has been asked more a dozen times over the last weeks and months. Sure, you can. You just need a sync combiner to get RGBHV converted to RGBs. Can be passive in a cable adapter or active (RGB interface, Arcadeforge UMSA, Yossi's Kenzei).

So wait, the Wii U outputs in 0-255 when playing Wii games, but switch to 16-235 when playing Wii U games? Is that correct? Is this dependant on wether you use component and HDMI or not?

That is some quote. How far back did you read that? :)

Wii is also 16-235. 0-255 YCrCb is almost never used as far as I understand.

I was googling and found that page from 2013

But what about what this guy said:
Artemio wrote:the wii for example uses full range over component.
Thrill wrote:It does? Jesus christ. I guess that explains why I was so confused when I was toggling between 0-255 and 16-235 on my capture card. I could swear that 0-255 looked right with the Wii but I told myself no since it was YPbPr and HAD to be 16-235.

That's analogue. And technically it's probably not full range, it just uses a different brightness offset. You can google about the 7.5 IRE offset for NTSC. Japan has it completely mixed up. Still even today half the BDs are mastered with 0 IRE offset, while the other half comes with a 7.5 IRE offset, although this difference shouldn't even exist anymore in the digital domain.

Thing is, you have to explicitly create all you content to be limited or full range when you create something in the wii. It is developer dependant or maybe enforced by quality standards, but from the hardware point of view, there is nothing to enforce what range you use.

If you create a texture or content that is full range, the wii happily outputs it via component.

To be more precise, the Wii U output RGB limited range when playing Wii U game.
When playing wii game, it outputs YCbCr if the output is set to 1080p (and I suppose 720p too). If the output is set to 480p, it outputs RGB limited range.
It could make sense, because a lot of video upscaler are optimized to upscale yuv content, so maybe nintendo used some usual yuv algorithms available out there. But most of the Wii U game aren't 1080p so maybe in these cases it's up to the game engine to do the upscaling...

(I'm talking about the hdmi output. I didn't test the analog YPbPr output)

And to be clear, I was talking in the later post and the one referrer to, to the YPbPr analog component output on the regular Wii.

Could you test the YPbPr output on the Wii U for Wii games at 720p or 1080i and see if you get Full Range?

The problem is, as Fudoh said, Full Range YPbPr doesn't exist in theory.
And I don't really have the hardware to verify this with absolute precision. I only have an Asus PA238q monitor which I know expects Full range RGB on its hdmi and display port inputs. It doesn't have settings to choose between full or limited. When you feed it with limited range, the black are greyish, and the white are not as bright as they should be.
But when you feed it with YPbPr, the black levels look like a full range rgb source so I assume my monitor handle "limited range" (I mean 16-235, the only one that exists in theory) YPbPr well (16 = no brightness, 235 = maximum brightness).

I'll see what I can do but I'm not sure to be the best person to test this.

And I don't know from where all this questions about the WiiU started, but a thing about the framemeister if that can help : with a PAL Gamecube outputing component, and the framemeister hdmi set to output rgb, the black levels on my monitor are good, so I suppose the framemeister handles well the component input and outputs full range rgb.

Sorry if i ask again, but maybe my question got no attention because of later questions. I just wanted someone to check this screenshot-detail (Nintendo64-Zelda Ocarina of time):

Image

The borders of the action-Buttons look terrible. Is this the normal result or did i make something wrong? It is of course possible to get rid of this horizontal lines by using V-scaler_5, but this isnt the recommended setting for 240p and kills of course the sharpness.
Ive tried a different TV too, but got the same result.

Nintendo64-US / S-Videocabel on Framemeister
Image_Mode: Picture
Scaler: "Game" (V-scaler 6)
Output: 720p/60
Default for the rest (i believe  )

The same Problem with an RGB-modded Pal-N64; screenshot-detail from "Paper Mario":

Image

Left: with Framemeister; right: Console connected dirctly on TV via RGB-Cable.

Ive tried a different TV too, but got the same result.

Thank you

The first posting of new members on the board doesn't push the thread, so your first posting probably didn't get the proper attention. Somebody with a N64 running should be able to confirm or refute what you see.
