I quite enjoyed the main quest, but it is far easier than SMT. You could not do much training/collecting and will still destroy the game.
The post-game content, however, is excellent. The game has a lot of depth, and being able to take a very unique team of dudes online is really neat for an rpg.
Forming a team of 6 dudes that are actually competant online (Perfect IVs, EV trained, correct Nature, any Egg Moves you might want, etc) takes a good understanding of the underlying system in the game, and there is a lot of room for creativity in all this. Its like Chess, if you could pick 6 out of an arsenal of over 700, and could tailor each piece to exactly how you like it.
Having had no interest in Pokemon a month ago, I've sunk 100 hours into the game since, and have been having a great time with it.
