B&O MX4200 CRT Stuck in 16:9 Mode

Post by purechoas »

Hi there

I have a B&O MX4200 CRT that is a Hotel Model (Remote says hotel and many options are cut off)

Image

When I plug my retro consoles via RGB scart it automatically puts the TV into 16:9 mode. The List button is not on the remote, on my one it says Mute instead. According to the manual and internet you press LIST and then can switch between 16:9 and 4:3

Image

This is so annoying as I can't find any other way to get this option. When I go into the Geometry adjustment menu the screen flicks into the correct 4:3 so I can see It is possible. But as soon as I return to the game it goes back into 16:9.

Image below is CRT correctly in 4:3 mode when in the Geometry options

Image switches to 16:9 when leaving geometry menu or clicking on a geometry option to adjust the values.

Does anyone know how I can get the TV into 4:3 mode on RGB Scart without the button on the remote? Would getting a normal remote even bring the menu up or are the actual TV software set to Hotel mode?

Such a good TV but I cannot get the geometry correct when fiddling myself and when I have tried to stretch the image out I get a convex scrolling effect that sucks. I know if it was displaying the 4:3 picture I can see behind the service menu as a base I could get the picture looking much better. I have tried default settings for both 4:3 and 16:9 that are mentioned in the service manual so the problem is I get a 4:3 image, squished into the 16:9 processing on the TV, then me having to re stretch it back out in the geometry setting. Results in not great image. Anyone have any ideas?

I can get into the Service Menu by pressing Menu 0 0 Go and mess around with Geometry.

Cheers

I dare say that you'll need to disconnect pin 8 in your scart cable/connector. I remember literally using pliers to simply rip out that pin to fix the same issue on a B&O set many years ago. That pin is apparently responsible for 4:3/16:9 auto-switching and seems to default to 16:9. I'm sure that a more elegant desoldering option would also be viable.

I have the same TV and mine does the same, it always switches to wide screen mode- but I have the remote with the List button.

As above you could disconnect a pin or perhaps buy the correct remote for the TV. I also thought you could add button options, have you checked the manual online there maybe a way of adding the option.

I had to add a option to control the motorised wall mount.

Thank you all for the reply,

The option to remap functions is ironically done using the List button from what I can tell. So that is a no go.

I am not sure another remote would even work should I even be able to find one out in the wild. It may be the TV is hardcoded into Hotel mode not sure.

And really don't want to manually break the pins on the Scart cables although very good idea/suggestion. Had not thought of that at all.
