Soukyugerentai versions question

Post by stoneroses »

Is there really much of a difference getting the newer version or is the original very playable?

If you're going to be using an Action Replay 4M+ or other converter cart to play the game on your US Saturn, then you should get the rerelease (Otokuyo). If you have a region switch or Japanese Saturn then it doesn't matter.

If you use a converter:
Just don't press Start in the intro and the game is just as playable (don't recall if there was a problem in practice mode though). Otherwise, the top half of the screen will become scrambled (although it's still possible to play). The other questions you should consider are whether you want a Battle Garegga demo (as in Otokuyo) or some English text in-game when it's not garbled (as in the original).

I remember quite a bit of slowdown in the original port, while I've heard it's basically non-existent in Otokuyo.

You sure you're not thinking of the PS1 port? That one has a good deal more slowdown than Otokuyo, I know (I own both)...haven't played the original Saturn port to confirm though.

Ofcourse not, I don't even have a PS1/PS2 system. I just remember the slowdown bothered me (especially by ST4), nothing too serious though.

BTW, the PS1 port got an extra ship to play, while both the Saturn versions don't.
*Meow* I am as serious as a cat could possible be. *Meow*

So what, the PSX version sucks compare to the arcade perfect Saturn version (mostly because Terra Driver (the US name) was made for the Sega SV-T system which was based off the Saturn hardware). ;)

It's still perfectly playable; just looks somewhat worse, that's all. Get both versions if you like the game.
