Anybody Else Using or Trying to Use a VP30->Elgato Camlink?

Post by NoAffinity »

I've been going back and forth with Elgato support almost 2 months now. Below is what I get when outputting from VP30 to Camlink. Source doesn't matter. I've tried every conceivable setting and combination of settings on the VP30. VP30 outputs fine to a Avermedia capture card, to multiple displays tested, etc. The Camlink captures find from every other source. I could go on and on, but won't...you get the idea.

At any rate, after almost two months of back and forth with Elgato support, they finally came back today to say " We don't have a solution for this video source right now. "

But, they stated at one point that another camlink user reported no problem with a VP20 outputting to the camlink. Not an exact match, but the tech is very similar/almost identical.

So, wondering if anyone else out there is trying to do this same thing, or can even report success with a VP30 outputting to and being captured with a camlink?

does the VP30 work when you don't use any external source, but the internal patterns instead ?

Same result.

VP30 has final firmware, does not have ABT-102.

You tried different output resolutions from the VP30 ? On your snapshot it says 640x480p on top and I know that Elgato dropped support for VESA resolutions on their other capture boxes.

Thank you for the interest in helping guys. :)

I'll try to recount everything I've tested/tried in this effort. There's probably more things I've done...

On VP30 - every conceivable setting, resolution, frequency locked/unlock, aspect ratio in/out, input output settings (video vs. pc) etc etc, that could possibly have any effect
-Including outputs of 1080p, 720p, 1080i, 480p, 540p, 1366 x 768, 1024 x 768......all of them
-Including all sync types - +/-, +/+, bisync....
Different HDMI cables
VP30 through a HDMI splitter (out to camlink and AVermedia capture card simultaneously), and VP30 direct to camlink
Camlink including various settings through Game Capture HD (native software), and through OBS and Video Pad Editor
-Including GCHD "hidden" advanced settings menu - allow deinterlace on and off, bulk and isochronous mode, firmware updated to latest (v20)
Sources - OSSC (HDMI), Xbox 360 (HDMI), Xbox Original (YPbPr), PS2 (YPbPr), Wii (YPbPr), 3DO (S-video), NES (composite), likely others

The only thing that has worked to make the two compatible is using a cheap chinese scaler between the two (like this: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ ... 7ae5eDhMP0), VP30 HDMI in -> chines scaler HDMI out. I can output 720p -> cheap chinese scaler @ 720p -> camlink, no problem. I can upscale or downscale through the chinese scaler also, no problem. Frankly, I'm not opposed to using this as my solution, but it's mostly just a curiosity at this point, wondering if anyone else has been successful with this particular coupling of tech, or have also met with failure.
