Quest to find a Shmup
Quest to find a Shmup
Hmm it's a long shot, but I remember playing this Shmup game I believe it was playstation 1 might be playstation 2 around the year 2002ish. I can't remember the title of the game only that it wasnt rly a sci-fi kinda game and you had the ability to upgrade your gun throughout the game. I've tried to search on google and look for images of different shmups but I can't seem to find that specific game. Also I believe it had "monsters" you had to defeat rather than aliens/armies. The viewing angle of this game was as if you were looking on top of it, rather than vertical.
Any suggestions which Shmup this might be.
Apologies for my bad English.
Kind Regards Zephioria

Re: Quest to find a Shmup
Hmmmm. It seems like you are new to this forum. Try to familiarize the look of that game or try to remember the last time you played it.
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.
Farewell.
Farewell.

I'm confused by this part:

or like this:

Those sound like the same thing. Was the viewing angle something like this:Zephioria wrote:The viewing angle of this game was as if you were looking on top of it, rather than vertical.

That's exactly what he's doing in the opening post.Goompaolo9500 wrote:Hmmmm. It seems like you are new to this forum. Try to familiarize the look of that game or try to remember the last time you played it.

Play for fun and win when you can.

I mean like the first picture you post Shepardus. I'm indeed totally new to this forum
. Kinda wanted to try and start collecting old consoles/games and I remember playing that Shmup at a friends house when I was younger. I guess it's like 15 years ago so I do have little memory about this game.
Something extra which came to my mind is I know we played the game in multiplayer mode. And there were a lot of versatile weapons. Like single laser and double laser. But somehow it feels different in my memory about the layout of the game, most shmups have a kind of scifi layout, if I recall correctly this shmup was more cartoonish.
I have been looking through those libraries and I don't really find one that resembles the one I'm thinking about. The problem might also be that my brain creates a whole different image about the game that how it actually looked like, because it's such a long time ago that I've played that game.

Re: Quest to find a Shmup
one question that will narrow things down quite a bit is: was it an imported japanese game, or one released in europe/us?

Check those lists maybe;
PS1 http://www.racketboy.com/retro/phenomin ... ps-library
PS2 http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sony/ps2 ... ps-library
EDIT, hah already posted by BM of course lol.
You sure it was on a PlayStation, sure it was even a console game ?

Going to throw out some guesses, even if they're not right maybe it'll jog your memory.
Viewpoint (doesn't have the weapons you describe)
Silpheed: The Lost Planet (I don't think it has multiplayer)
Detana!! TwinBee or TwinBee Yahho! (tell me if this is too cartoonish)

Re: Quest to find a Shmup
I remember that crappy port of Strikers 1945 being everywhere in the PS1 days, like everyone had a copy because game stores sold it for a few bucks. It's less sci-fi and has that kind of goofy psikyo feel so maybe? Or maybe you're misremembering the screen orientation and it's Sol Divide? Or the Gunbird port that was sold as "Mobile Life Force".
Re: Quest to find a Shmup
I'm 95% sure it was on a playstation 1, and Twinbee kinda resembles the game the most which comes into my mind. But the twinbee games look a bit too old.
Thanks a lot for all the respons guys

Re: Quest to find a Shmup
It is twinbee, I remember the bells you had to shoot which gives you the power up. Thanks a lot for the help guys

Re: Quest to find a Shmup
Which one ? TwinBee Deluxe Pack or TwinBee Yahho ?
EDIT: oh both Detana and Yahho come in the 'pack', I forgot about that.

Nobody forgets the bells.
With the "lot of versatile weapons" you mentioned, you were probably thinking of TwinBee Yahho! in particular, which has a variety of different weapons you can pick up and equip on your arms.

*spits* Back in maaaah day, mods would merge dozens of existing one-off request threads like these into a single, dedicated "Identify this random game from my childhood" topic.
Is it too late to request a merge with this thread, this thread, this thread, this thread, and this thread?

And in which equipping a weapon in each arm leaves you in the highly unfavorable position of being unable to bomb ground targets...Shepardus wrote:Nobody forgets the bells. With the "lot of versatile weapons" you mentioned, you were probably thinking of TwinBee Yahho! in particular, which has a variety of different weapons you can pick up and equip on your arms.

Re: Quest to find a Shmup
It's still perplexing to me that Konami saw fit to localize Twinbee and Parodius ports for Europe but not NA. Maybe EU has less aversion to colorful things?
Re: Quest to find a Shmup
would rather not see everything merged into annoying to read 50 page megathreads. if there was a lot more activity here it would kinda make sense but the way things are now it's nice to see stuff pop up as it's own topic and start it's own discussionWelshMegalodon wrote:*spits* Back in maaaah day, mods would merge dozens of existing one-off request threads like these into a single, dedicated "Identify this random game from my childhood" topic.

FWIW, I really like one-off threads like this. Megathreads are great, but become a chore to get through once responses are all over the place to different posts.d0s wrote:would rather not see everything merged into annoying to read 50 page megathreads. if there was a lot more activity here it would kinda make sense but the way things are now it's nice to see stuff pop up as it's own topic and start it's own discussionWelshMegalodon wrote:*spits* Back in maaaah day, mods would merge dozens of existing one-off request threads like these into a single, dedicated "Identify this random game from my childhood" topic.

Glad you found the game! You might also want to check out Pop'n Twinbee for the SNES if you want some more Twinbee action
