Shmups for the TI-83+ graphing calculator

Post by gs68 »

Do any shmups exist for the 83+? I'm looking to waste some free time at school with a shmup or two on my calculator.

One of the older TIs has a "Thunder Force" on it (though it played more along the lines of Vanguard II/Time Pilots/Last Mission type shmups).

I know of a bunch of games named Phoenix that are shmups. There is a helicopter shmup and there are probably a few others too. Ticalc.org is a good resource for finding TI calculator games.

I haven't tried this one, but it looks like a shmup. http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fi ... 20693.html

Star Soldier clone?

Did SMB for the TI ever get finished? That looked really neat. I don't own a TI but a friend does and he used to have a Bomberman clone on it. Sorry for going slightly OT.

If phoenix is what I'm thinking of, I used to play that a lot in High School math classes. I think its similar to Galaga and there are a limited amount of lasers that can be fired.

I would pull out the calculator and the teacher thought I was working on my homework!

There is also a really well made version of tetris for the TI-83.

I tried that Invaded game I linked to. It's a R-Type clone. There is a TI-83 game called R-Type, but it's a basic dodge the asteroids game and not a shmup. Also, I definatly recommend downloading Fire Track 2 over the first one, though it takes up more memory.

There's also this WW2-style shooter called "Air Attack", I think. Please note that most games are produced for both the Ti-83 and the Ti-83 PLUS, you'll need the plus version. Also, get ION/MirageOS.
...and suddenly, a very freaky wormhole opened, and 4 3-foot tall market analysts fell out...

yes, MirageOS is highly recommended. If I remember correctly, it also plays ION games. I also found a very good TI-83+ version of Bubble Bobble. It actually has all of the original levels.
