LAN Shmups?

Post by phlegmer »

So besides XenoRaptor, would anyone have suggestions on good "LAN Party" shmups?

Thanks

If you can get people into them, VS shmups like Twinkle Star Sprites, Phantasmagoria of Flower View and Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream can be a lot of fun.

Also, Change Air Blade is awesome.

Any chance people at the LAN party would want to play local shmups on one monitor? Jamestown would work. There used to be a game on Turbulenz playable in browser called Score Rush - I think it's gone from there but now it has a PS4 sequel. Overdriven Reloaded could also be fun for that.

Thanks for the info! I'm familiar with Twinkle Star Sprites for the Saturn and Score Rush for the PS4. The others I'm not so I'll need to check them out.

Actually every year I host a shmup gathering at our house. This year I was going to setup a LAN Party area. Was hoping to have another option or two besides XenoRaptor as the night progressed.

Thanks!

Some good co-op shooters are In The Hunt, R-Type Leo, and Takumi's games. Interactivity with a way to cover the other player's back in some manner (besides disconnected screen-clearing smart bombing) is the key to an engaging co-op experience.

It doesn't quite fit the above description but I've also always really enjoyed playing Kingdom Grandprix with friends.

Anything on MAME can be played over LAN via netplay solutions like MAMEHub/CSMAME.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours supports up to 4 players in AC mode and lets players help each other out with their burst units. If you can get a multimonitor setup going that'd be a great fit.

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

"In the Hunt" looks interesting. Too bad it's way too much on ebay. The imported version appears to be much cheaper.

Yup, Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours is already in my Steam Library and it's slated to be one of the 5 games in our tournament....with 2 50" 4k TV's I might add 8)

Doesn't seem to be many options for shmups in a LAN party environment. Which is fine. Thought I'd try something different this year. Less things to plan, gather hardware, and setup for future ShmupCons. :)

Thanks
