Games with WARNING

As far as Arcade titles go, which ones have WARNING signs before the boss fights?

The Darius series is well-known for that - I think it started that whole trope in the first place. Ketsui has a warning sign too, no boss name though.

Since that compilation includes PC games I'm surprised there's no Warning Forever. That should be the most obvious one. :P

I know for sure there are quite a lot of games not featured in this video. Basically I want to make a update of it, only focusing on Arcade/non-doujin stuff.

Do other video games count? Because I know that the Mega Man X series (X4-X8) have this before each boss battle.

He did specify arcade games, so probably not Mega Man unless we want to include Power Battle. Like you said, I suppose it depends if he's looking for just shmup arcade games, or arcade games in general.

Needs discussion on some of the more elaborate warning (and related) signs such as RSG, Ikaruga, HellSinker, etc:

Code: Select all

T H E S A M E T Y P E R E A C T I O N R E C E I V E D .
I guess it's a particular strain of games...

For my game I was planning on doing a somewhat RSG-influenced format like

[BOSS NAME]

[1 LINE OF LORE]
[1 LINE OF LORE]
[1 LINE OF LORE]

But with more of an Ars Goetia / Demonological twist on the wording.

Agreed, those always stood out to me. There's an art to conveying information or even just general tone in that tiny window. Thunder Force V is another with great panache.

Also that great endgame freakout when the onboard computer goes fuckin' nuts at The Guardian's approach.

"FEAR THE REAPER"

Off-topic, being entirely audio, but I've a soft spot for Metal Black's incongruous, anachronistic, ugly-as-fucking-hell klaxon. *AHOOGA* *AHOOGA* I think Turrican once referred to the Black Fly as a "space submarine...." certainly reflects that interpretation, and the sense of humanity being on its last rusty legs versus overwhelming odds.

One of the best ones is in Psyvariar Revision, it has a voice spelling out the warning message and the name of the boss, while the message's background is a small tinted 4-way re-render of the game's whole screen which makes for some sick visuals at times, like making a simple double door before the boss look like an iris door in area X-A.

Never understood Axelay's boss warning sound. Is it saying "Hurricane howl"? "Earthling howl"? What?

Giga Wing 2 (Naomi arcade) has a satisfying cheesy klaxon sound for it's screen-filling WARNING. Unfortunately Giga Wing 1 just has pilot chatter.

They're all noted on the list already.

Was thinking whether I'd add it since it doesn't have the sign to go with the klaxon.

Am also thinking whether I'll add G-Net and Naomi, since their emulation on MAME sucks. Maybe I can get from a Dreamcast emulator.

Perhaps I could make a separate one for console titles, if there are enough.

Crimzon Clover: World Ignition had a release on NessicaxLive (the significance of WI is that its "Arcade" difficulty is a direct port of the Nessica version). It's arcade.

Well, I know this doesn't count (since it doesn't have a "Warning"), though Triggerheart Exelica goes something like this...

"EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY"

"Your target is approaching...Are you ready!"

Technically the arcade version is called Crimzon Clover for NESiCAxLive, but whatever you call it it's missing from the list.

Redux: Dark Matters has "Warning Boss Encounter" before each boss.
