Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Ps4 is the better choice for shmups. The only big game on Xbox is raiden v and that seems very lacklustre to me. The number one choice is Xbox 360 if you want shmups.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
I wish I had an Xbox: Raiden V and backwards compatibility with many of their 360 shmups (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58744). They still need Radiant Silvergun and Raiden Fighters Aces, though. Of course, if you already have a 360 then BC doesn't mean much.
PS4 has Dariusburst Chronical Saviours, Battle Garegga (Japan PSN only for now), and eventually Dangun Feveron. Ubusuna may show up someday. Nothing else has interested me so far.

thanks for the suggestions.
i need to get my xbox 360 working again, it's been a while since i hooked it up. or look at all the BC games on the xbox one.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Neither PS4 nor Xbox One has much of a shmup catalogue, but if you've already got both systems, I suppose that doesn't really matter. PS4 has Resogun, Astebreed (with some additions/enhancements over the PC version), Battle Garegga, and soon Dangun Feveron. Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours too, but that's on PC too, and the PC version has multi-monitor support to boot. Jamestown is on PS4 and PC as well. Xbox One has whatever's been made backwards compatible from the Xbox 360, and Raiden V. Maybe Natsuki Chronicle someday.
Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Jamestown PS4 is a revision with some exclusive content; the PC version is also broken for a lot of people and at this point it won't ever be fixed. (It doesn't even go on sale, I think the developers are pretty much done making games.)Shepardus wrote:Jamestown is on PS4 and PC as well.
Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
I would think being that the Ps4 is a huge success , everyone and their mother will want to make games for it, including shmups. So I would assume the PS4 will get the lion's share of shmup development. Though if you're anything like myself and enjoy a wide variety of games , its not even a question as to which is better. As much as I'm a happy PS4 owner, I don't think its good for any company to dominate in any industry.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Right now the difference is so small it could come down to your contemporary needs (or lack of them):
If you just want shmups, then 360 is the easiest single box answer still. If you've got a decent laptop or mid range pc, then there's that too - but that's probably not your living room choice.
(Possibly in addition to a cheap 360). If you want access to contemporary games but aren't too bothered which specifically then ps4 (+psn) may be the better answer... it has darius, garrega and rez which aren't exactly new but are the only current gen shmup releases I've personally gotten excited about on console.
If you only want one box, shmups are important, and only want to add one expensive controller/stick without adapters; then the backwards compatibility features of xbone could be a winner with shmups in mind.
Near future:
Scorpio could change the premium version debate and become the 60fps/improved visuals console of choice. It's not a shmup thing as such, but if this could 'burn' your sense of investment/interest leave, and sour your experience, I'd possibly wait and see if you haven't jumped on one bandwagon yet.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
I haven't bothered upgrading to a current console yet, but so far the PS4 has 5 games I'm interested in, one of which isn't released yet and I can't think of a single reason to own an Xbox One.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
I would agree with that. This could be console blinders I have on, but owning a PS4 I have not seen a single Xbox One exclusive of interest to me. If you're only in it for scrolling shooters, I wouldn't waste my money on either console at this point, tbh.

I had all the Gears, Forza, CoD and Halo I can take, last time around.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Not a shmup, but can't deny the Irem lineage. Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 4+ Summer Memories appears to be back on track for release. Now supporting Playstation VR,the Japanese demo was supposed to be out in January but delayed until February, and now no updates ..What has it been,7 years of delays already?
A recent youtube comment suggested it is being translated to English and German, though I've found no confirmation of that.
If it ever does come out, it'll be a system seller for me (if I don't already have a PS4 by then)

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
If I had to choose one, it'd be the PS4- the Pro, preferably. You do get some good shmups like Caladrius Blaze, Jamestown, & Darius Burst CS just to name a few.. DBCS could easily do a 4K mode for the Pro, since it seems to be not quite so demanding on the hardware (look at Steam where it says PC owners can get away with some pretty old models of Nvidia card). I'm wondering how it would be on PlayStation VR- at 1920 x 1080 it would be a little lower than the arcade's full resolution (2560 x 720 I think, meaning PS4 cuts the viewport to 1920 x 540 to save the aspect ratio) but still amazing probably.
I think this gen, Sony has seen the demand for shmups. I wouldn't base an Xbox One purchase on Raiden V, because that could possibly go cross-platform like others did. A Steam release of Natsuki Chronicles wouldn't surprise me later on either.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
The shmup console of this generation has yet to be decided. You've got M2 releasing games on the ps4, garegga and the upcoming dangle feverlegs but I think, currently, the xbone has tipped it solely because of their backwards compatibility and of course Qute's upcoming Natsuki Chronicle. If you have a 360, maybe the ps4. I think it's still too early to call.
Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Natsuki still looks like a prototype from recent footage and there isn't that many shmups available with BC including none of the Cave games. I agree that right now there isn't a definitive shmup console this gen at the moment but PS4 definitely looks like it has the best chance.

Guwange is on there - https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Prod ... 0258410a78DoomsDave wrote:there isn't that many shmups available with BC including none of the Cave games

Word. I'll happily take Atelier and Super Robot Wars over them.Satan wrote:I had all the Gears, Forza, CoD and Halo I can take, last time around.
Rare Replay is tempting but hardly enough to sell me on Xbox this gen.

Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
MOSS has never said anything about porting V, but I want to believe it'll eventually show up on PC. They gave us III, IV, and Caladrius Blaze.qmish wrote:Raiden V, will make it to GOG?
Re: PS4 or Xbox One?
Yeah, Raiden V is pretty lackluster. Fortunately, the Xbone has a few solid BC shmups, including Ikaruga, R-Type Dimensions, Omega 5, Guwange, Strania, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, and Trigger Heart Exelica. Surely there will be more to come. There are a few other indie shmups as well, like Teslapunk.
