[CAVE 360] Hi-Scores don't Save on later titles
[CAVE 360] Hi-Scores don't Save on later titles
Good evening,
I apologize if this has been posted somewhere before, but I have searched and searched and haven't been able to find a solution.
I have the older model white JP 360 w/ HDMI. On both Mushihimesama and Saidaioujou, my hi-scores will save until I exit to the "main game type select" menu. If I re-enter the exact same game and ship type I was playing, the Hi-Score resets to default. I'm using US region HDDs, but none of the other cave games have issues saving my high scores like these two do.
On both of these games, I've never seen the "Enter Name" screen you normally would after completing a run. I've also not restarted midplay (I know this prevents a score from being saved)
On Saidaioujou, automatic saving is turned on and on the title screen it asks for my hard drive with no issues. When I finish a run it will say saving in the corner.
Is there a known issue and fix for these games?
It's disheartening and hard to want to play these games when I don't have a personal record to aim to beat each time.
Sorry again if I've created a repeat thread or posted in the wrong place. I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks

I have a ton of trouble getting Pink Sweets to keep my saves, so I can commiserate. Other than that, I am of no help at all.

At some point Cave decided that their scoreboards weren't worth updating. Like you said, you don't even get the option to enter your name - I think it will display the score with CAV initials on the in-game scoreboard. Apparently it doesn't last - I can't remember if there's a separate high score function (hidden in with the leaderboard somewhere?) or if you have to rely on your online leaderboard postings/replay saves to keep a record of your score.

Guess you might have to go back to a high scores piece of paper folded and tucked inside the game case. XnX
Oh heavens it's like 1980's and NES shmups all over again.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Yeah, not sure what Cave were thinking with their later ports.
Entire scoreboard full of CAV. Screw that.

I'm still not sure how the sdoj score saving works
it's separated by both ship type and style though
but sometimes it doesn't seem to save scores at all

Consider it product placement/brand awareness. In their own game.Special World wrote:Yeah, not sure what Cave were thinking with their later ports.

I don't understand how you wouldn't be able to enter your own name if this arranged BGM for that screen exists...

Also under in the game's system menu, there are options to reset local scores for all different game types. What is the point of having these options if the game wasn't designed to have your local scores saved anyway?
During the attract screen, yes it does show your score, but if you exit and play another game type and return to the previous one, the attract screens high scores all reset to default again.
I don't understand how if this is a bug that it could exist in multiple later ports without being addressed.
Were any updates released for these games that maybe I need to login to a JP gamertag to download?
Thanks again

If the board is actually saving scores between games I wonder in theory if you could push 3 bytes in for your initials using a game modifying device.
Essentially just modifying the chunk of memory where the "CAV" text string is stored when the game boots...
Guess they've not had GameShark for some time though.
Heaven forbid the 12 year old squeakers playing CoD get cheated on while the rest of us fix annoying game issues.

Yeah it really looks like the only local score saving is in the attract screen :/ I'm not sure if the extra score windows you can turn on will display it or not but I'm using a TATE CRT...
The thrill of beating your high score the second you do it is gone... Basing the score you have now, where you are in your route, against your high score to see if the run is going well as you play is gone.
Oh well, thanks for helping out everyone.
