Video game bucket list

Post by majik989s »

Does anyone else have a bucket list of games or game experiences? I personally keep a document on my computer with a list of games I want to play. My requirement is always that it's on the original system.

Next up: Bulk Slash and a 1cc of 19XX at Galloping Ghost

Genesis - Contra Hard Corps, Shining Force I & II, Truxton
SMS - Streets of Rage, Star Wars, Dragon's Trap
NES - Metal Storm, Gargoyle's Quest II, Tiny Toons 2 (random game from my childhood lol, not rare or anything)
SNES - ActRaiser, Mega Man X2, Mega Man 7
Turbografx/CD - Rondo of Blood, everdrive (I have no turbografx experience so I don't even know where to begin)
Neo Geo AES - MVS converter and a handful of MVS carts

There's bound to be about a million other games I'd have on my list, but those are the main ones off the top of my head.

Planet Harriers and Galactic Storm (Taito). I probably won't ever get to play either but who knows.

Dragon Gun in its dedicated cabinet would also be great.

I'm happy that all the games I considered "must beat at some point in life" are already done for.

D&D Tower of Doom
Kid Chameleon
Shiren the Wanderer
Vantage Master Online

There are a few I still want to beat but none are bucket list material. If I were to hang the controller today I'd die a happy man.

Sell all the games I've realised are not for me.

Right now, I wanna play all of the major bemani games on genuine machines; there's a Round 1 arcade opening up near home next year, so I might get the chance pretty soon!

Dragon Blaze 2-ALL (I'm in no rush to achieve this, but I'd like to do it someday)
Ascension/victory in Nethack, Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup, and ADOM (three of the roguelikes I respect the most and find most interesting, but I suck at all of them)

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

Have you tried any other roguelikes? My first ascension was Crawl but it took me a good solid 50 hours. You should definitely check out Brogue, it's my favorite for sure.

Better get started with them already because they will take you a very long time to finish.

At one point I was heavily invested in roguelikes and really wanted to beat NetHack, but after numerous attempts I simply couldn't get into it. I was also never okay with the fact that spoilers are needed to finish it. I think ADOM also suffers from this.

I have a looooong list of games I want to at least play, and I keep a gaming diary with elaborate notes on my experiences, but I've stopped setting up goals for achievements within the games and just move on to the next game when I've beaten it or sucked out most of the enjoyment from it (there are of course a bunch of games I keep coming back to though, above all the Raizing and Cave shooters, but not because I want to work on achievements or anythng like that). I also have a list of arcade games with dedicated controls or super-immersive cabinet designs that I try to track down when I'm in Japan. I'm done with a bunch of them, but not my top priorities such as Vertexer and Dragon Gun.

Next up are a bunch of Gamecube titles that I haven't played yet: Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Dragon Drive and Metroid Prime.
