Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
I mentioned this in the "CAVE is (not) dead" thread but I suppose it's best discussed separately:
Three former CAVE personnel have formally announced their new studio TANOSHIMASU, along with their debut game, a smartphone STG named "Aki to Blue" (Red & Blue). The people involved (not including interns) are:
Hiroyuki Kimura: producer/director on Akai Katana Shin, Nin2Jump, DDP Maximum, SDOJ X360
Yugo Fujioka: programmer on Akai Katana Shin, DDP Max, SDOJ X360
Hiroyuki Tanaka: ship designer on Ketsui & DDP DFK, enemy designer on DDP DOJ, background designer on almost everything from DDP onwards
The game will have dynamic backgrounds and is being made in Unity. There's not much info on the game itself, just a few screens and a gif, which can be found on their website/blog, but it does seem like they're going for something orthodox: http://tanoshimasu.com/

Just to reiterate: CAVE has retained many of their key STG personnel including IKD, YGW and 1MR, so they're hardly spent as a potential maker of authentic STG.

Cool, can't wait for their first 'Kickstarter'.
Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
In this case more is better

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Even though I hate most Unity games for being ridiculously unoptimized, I'll at least have some faith in Tanoshimasu that they will get a SHMUP running at 60fps. Crimzon Clover got great framerates despite being made in bloody Flash, after all.GSK wrote: The game will have dynamic backgrounds and is being made in Unity.

Crimzon Clover isn't made in Flash though?

I wouldn't trust wikipedia for anything like this as far as I could throw it. I'm pretty damn sure it's not fucking Flash.Durandal wrote:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimzon_Clover

I wouldn't be so sure the programmer for SDOJ 360 and Akai Katana could be trusted to make a game without serious control/slowdown problems

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Wiki history has it listed back in July as "Runs on the spiritual energy of daddy the flashman" before "Adobe Flash". Pretty clear someone's been messing with the page.

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
This flash dumbness seems to have started because of a bundle's name? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=895313
Yotsubane said he wrote his own engine in interviews and the game's readme tells you what basic libraries were used in making it.
Anyway, this new game will probably run okay whatever engine it's on, it's being made for fixed platforms after all so testing performance should be easy.

ARGH.
I really don't like such artstyle. Looks totally like casual mini-games in Facebook.
Why near every modern smartphone game needs to look like this? It's ugly and generic. Even J2ME junk had more personality.

I'd trust they have the potential to do some good stuff. Now - this - is their company's first game, maybe just for showing something to the public, dunno.
Still good to know there's a new player already with experience in the game.

Agreed, it looks like shit.qmish wrote: I really don't like such artstyle. Looks totally like casual mini-games in Facebook.

It's one thing to have a minimalistic style, but another to have artwork that looks like it's done by a 4 year old.
Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Artstyle reminds me of muchi muchi pork? Lost interest as soon as I read smartphone...
Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
If they really must make a valueless phone game, perhaps they should at least make it stand out by not having it look like every other phone game. We play old games, we know you can do better with that resolution.

Actually, modern smartphones have HIGH RES.
1000 or 2000 px per long side.
So MAYBE one of reasons why all of them switched from 320x240 pixelart/prerender 3d to "smth made with Corel Draw/Adobe Illustrator in 30 mins" because of more easy scaling.

I think it looks good and I'm going to day 1 buy the shit out of it. Not kidding.

You thought Donpaccin looked good (and my assumption is you still do). Your right to opinion is invalid.

I like cute games every once in a while. I'm not saying it's my favorite style or that it's the best. I'll let you know how it plays. I'm not interested in a pointless piss match. If you're gonna piss match there should be a good reason.

Cave people could animate stick drawings and I'd still be interested in checking it out.
