Am i right in thinking that the Gamecube version of Star Soldier is the same one that appeared on the PS2 as part of Hudson's retro series ??

Yes you are.

Very slight differences though - on the psp version you can select from two ships, and I think I remember seeing a different background on one of the psp levels also - but it's mainly the game game, as mentioned.

I think it's a pretty good game, fast paced and good length (10 levels). Very challenging if you crank up the difficulty.

Works fine with a freeloader.....
Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.

Another advantage of the gamecube version is progressive scan support (480P/640x480). :D

I would value it closer to $20-25 myself.

He mentioned the PS2 version, not PSP.

Great game on all three systems.

Does the PS2 version have auto-fire? Hammering the buttons on any joypad is a chore, which is the only thing I dislike about the GC version.

It has the flawed autofire which is probably the same in GC version - that is, holding the firebutton down results in weaker shots. To get the proper firepower you need to hammer the button.

It would easily be one of my favourite shmups if not for that. I actually bought a third-party controller with autofire just to get around it so I can enjoy the game.

I was considering getting a GC Hori pad modified with autofire just for this game. Never got round to it though...
