Movies:
1. The Tale of Princess Kaguya
2. Cat Soup
3. Primer
4. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Can't decide the last one, lots of films I like but don't immediately think of when someone asks me to name my favorite films. Maybe Tekkonkinkreet, Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue, Angel's Egg, The Silence of the Lambs, or Dead Leaves.

Games:
1. Battle Garegga
2. Crimzon Clover: World Ignition
3. Cho Ren Sha 68k
4. Dark Souls
5. La-Mulana
Quake 3's a close 6th.

Movies:
Seven Samurai
End of Evangelion
Memories of Matsuko
Woman in the Dunes
Castaway on the Moon

Games:
1. Mushihimesama Futari - Including both 1.5 & Black Label. If I had to pick one, though, it'd be Black Label because God Mode alone makes Futari the best game ever made.
2. Ninja Gaiden II (360) - I'm almost 100% certain that there's never going to be a better action game at this point.
3. Dodonpachi Daioujou - Specifically the original Daioujou because it's a far better game than Black Label.
4. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns - Unquestionably the best wrestling game ever made.
5. Crimzon Clover: World Ignition - I guess. Honestly, the top three games are so far ahead of everything else that I don't really think about what's #4 and #5.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with this chick awhile back. I got to bring the movie to watch for movie-night, so I brought some Lone Wolf and Cub for that ass. She asks me if I like Kurosawa and I said, "nope, his movies are film-school good, but dogshit boring. I could only appreciate his films if I were paying $80k in tuition to be graded for it". So her and I can't even enjoy Baby Cart on the River Styx because now we gotta debate cinema.

and while glancing through the thread the seventh continent happens to be the only haneke mentioned... and 2 (or 3) times even? coincidence?

-touhou 12.8
-touhou 9.5
-touhou 12.5
-touhou 9
-touhou 3
12.8 the best by a long shot.
because i really can't bring myself to care nearly as much about other genres, and other games within this genre are typically painfully boring in comparison

Lol I didn't notice someone else ha picked it. Was trying to go for a completely fresh list for no particular reason. It's pretty much impossible to pick a best Haneke given the ridiculous consistency of his work, but there's something unbelievably precise and perfect and hideous about The Seventh Continent.

It's pretty hard to narrow it down to just five, especially since my list is basically always changing. What makes games so much harder to judge is that they can almost always be improved, whereas movies for example are much easier to get right the first time around.

5. NiGHTS Into Dreams
4. Ninja Gaiden Black
3. Shenmue
2. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
1. Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core +R

I haven't played NGII yet, so perhaps that'll make its way here when I get around to it.

5. The Fifth Element
4. Lost In Translation
3. 12 Monkeys
2. The Matrix
1. Blade Runner (Final Cut)

Movies:

1. Dr. Strangelove
2. Halloween (1978)
3. Phenomena
4. Tomb of the Blind Dead
5. Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Grapes:

1. Suikoden II
2. Lunar: Eternal Blue (Sega CD)
3. Lunar: Silver Star (Sega CD)
4. Gradius Gaiden
5. Bloodborne/Bayonetta/Dragon Quest V/Akumajou Densetsu/Phantasy Star 2 ect.

Police Story would be #1 on my action movie list. Wheels on Meals wouldn't be far behind either.

Yeah, I almost went with Police Story over Terminator but it seemed silly to say it's 'better'. It's not really two movies one would normally compare, but in the end I decided that Terminator's impact on entertainment in general had to put it a cut above a simple action flick. A simply f*n amazing action flick, Police Story, but simple nonetheless.

Sorry Jackie, we still love you.
