Well I just ordered U.N. Squadron(Area 88) of ebay today. I have the emulator but It's not like playing the actual game. I also got the original OVA's and the new series they made off the original. I heard that UN is going to be in capcoms new re release bundle so I'm going to have to get that!
Whoa, this was a game?? Awesome! I gotta try it out...I got the first volume of the new anime recently and loved it. That's cool that McCoy and the long haired guy are in the game too...I had never even heard of this until I saw the anime.
The SNES version is some what improved to the Arcade version. It does add some strategy since you can choose from a campaign map which level you want to fight.

Arguments?
Well for one I don't have a usb controller, so I'm forced to play with the keypad WHICH SUCKS. But I have plans for my old PC to turn into a emulator arcade.
Ah, I think you're right; every few seconds you had to take your finger off the button for a second or else it'd stop. Not as bad as having to tap out every shot, but yes, you're correct, I remember now.

I remember that boss now! It took me bloody ages to get past him because IIRC you could only buy limited stocks of 'vertical' missiles, which once run out of made the task almost impossible.
Top game all the same, though i used to put more money into 'Carrier Airwing'. I think it just seemed more exciting because it never had a port.
"What the hell kind of a two-bit operation are they running out of this treehouse, Cooper? I have seen some slip-shod, backwater burgs, but this place takes the cake."
.
Yeah, Carrier Wing & Varth is one of those Shooters that make you wonder why they never ported onto home consoles.
It would have been a perfect port on the Saturn or PSX.
I would prefer that than any of all those Capcom VS Beat Em Ups released on both Saturn & PSX.
I usually hate shooters with shops, but this is one of those rare exceptions.
Very well balanced & can be 1'cc without having to memorize Boss/enemy patterns, just depending on your reflexes & from what you buy on the Aircraft carrier at the end of each stage.
A good solution to the auto fire problem is just to invest in a turbo controller. Luckly I already have two of them since I was younger so I can just hold the button down.
that ceiling boss does me in every time, i can't be bothered to go back through the game again just to get my arse whipped. anyone have any suggestion what is most effective weapon to use? a combination of napalm for the floor enemies and vertical missile to shoot at the "core"?

I just use the gunpod for the core and clear out the floor whenever I see those flame and missle lauchers roll in. It's very important you grab that shield before the boss since it allows you to maneuver past the flames a few times without putting you in danger of dying. The vertical missile sucks imo since all it does is let loose a few missles without causing enough damage, and it doesn't last very long as well. The Stealth Ray is preferrably the best plane to use unless you're going to save up for the Efreet, which equals lots and lots of bonus missions.
thanks for the info dirty monk, i've now managed to beat the ceiling boss! finally! i made it to the final boss, but my credits ran out. the final boss seems do-able though. so next time i play, i hope to clear the game
