shmup collection on the latest Retro Gamer magazine

Post by theevilfunkster »

Just thought I'd tell you guys about the latest issue of Retro Gamer magazine here in the UK which has got a pretty freakin sweet cover disk with 50 clone shmups on it.

Some of the games are really quite good, especially the Thunderforce III/IV clone Thunderslash.

Fortunately, there's a newsstand nearby here which carries this. I'll have to grab that one.

What's the issue number? RG is a bit farther behind in the States than in the UK, and the latest issue here is 14.

That RG issue, is issue #17 and I called a few stores around that carry that mag and they say they have issue 14 only. Its way behind in the states.

Yeah, it's issue 17 or volume 2 issue 5. They're full games apparently although I havn't had time to play them all yet, there's 50 games on it I think. Quite a few R-Type and Gradius clones.

And check out the latest Edge, its got got interviews with G REV, Milestone and Triangle Service.

The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I can sometimes find this magazine in Ohio, but it's very pricey, over $10 as I recall. I haven't yet been moved to buy a copy.

Can't really complain this month... seems worth it for G-Type and the Thunderforce rip alone.

You fing first worlders are such a bunch of whiney bitches. That magazine costs $20 here in the third world and dammit if it isn't worth every penny every month.

Can't wait to get back home in a week to see that beautiful issue.

I pay $13 for it here in Puerto Rico, and I'm pretty sure that's what it costs in the states. Am I right?

Something to look forward to, though RG is always an awesome read each month.

In the USA, Borders bookstore sell the Retro Gamer UK mag...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

If you have a local Borders bookstore in your city/town in the USA, then you can buy the UK produced Retro Gamer magazine that comes with a bundled CD-Rom disc...worth the pricey $$$ just for the cool retro gaming disc alone. And yes, the Retro Gamer magazine is worth checking out for the cool retro gaming articles alone!

Ok, time for my good deed of the week:

If any of you guys outside of the UK want the newest issue of the mag asap, PM me. If everyone can let me know by, say, Sunday I'll troop into town Monday and get a load to post out to people. Just Paypal me the cash for the mag and postage.

I'll nip to the postoffice tomorrow morning if I can, and confirm how much for postage.

Anyone interested?
