Operation Bullet Storm (XNA)

Post by TodayIsForgotten »

Was just browsing youtube and saw this clip as a recommended link after the video I was watching. Doesn't seem too bad, especially for an XNA game. Its apparently a work in progress but it looks like it has some promise.

Pretty certain no one has posted this and if so...oh well.

Update: Apparently, there is a newer video of this and now my thread reflects this.

Definitely, digging this. I like the music too.

That does look pretty good, sort of a zero gunner vibe from the scrolling and aiming.

No inertia visible, no lifebar, decent scoring system, small hitbox, one weapon. Looks like it might actually be good. I like the omnidirectional aiming.

Ugh, yet again another vertically scrolling shmup that uses the entire screen. It's not so bad with 4:3 games like Mars Matrix, but once you go to 16:9 there's just too much side-to-side real estate.

Looks promising. It seems the medals have a completely random trajectory though (bad!)

You have 360 aiming. Its a hori when it wants to be, and a vertizontal when it doesn't. I hope this game works out well, at it would be a good example as to what all the other devs need to do.

Is it opposite day?
The 2nd vid looks better, better bullet patterns, chain gage, gold is absorbed. I hope we can get more good xna shmups at some point. Where's the jpn doujin scene?

Very bad on a 16:9 screen ratio.

I guess this is directed towards me. If so, as mentioned this was a video that was recommended after a video I was watching. Didn't bother searching the username to see if there was anything else. The thread is now updated to reflect that. Thanks.

This is looking better, much better now. not huge on the 360ish shooting but it could work in this game.

No, just sayin' that people usually bash games like this. Especially scrolling multidirectional shooting.

What kind of weapon destroys a 20 ton enemy without leaving a trace?

Anyway, I realize it's a game but a little immersion goes a long way. You've got to believe it's a battle.

This looks to be a pre-alpha build. The player model is still the XNA default teapot. Wait until it hits beta to complain about things like that.

Okay, I'll wait until then before offering any critiques or suggestions. Certainly doesn't do any good to hear about things early and often

Ahh, i hear ya. To be honest, I am not impressed with the XNA framework. I don't know if there are limitations in the system or what or its just developers have no idea how to use a keyboard, mouse and whatever else goes into making games.

From an XNA perspective of what is currently available - to me, the game is pretty impressive. I'm almost 99.5% sure i won't buy it, though. I think the graphics do look dumb, but to me its not about what an enemy looks like but more how the game plays. I still think the game has promise.
