Can't say I ever played the original, but I'll still keep an eye out for this.

Any word on whether the original creators are going to be involved and to what extent?

5 min. of gameplay footage:

The video shows Team 17's CEO, Martyn Brown, playing the game.

For me, it's SOLD! I loved the AMIGA game.

Moved to off-topic since Alien Breed is no shmup.

I am a big fan of the Amiga games. This one is looking sweet. Shame it's on PSN and XBLA

I don't think Andreas Tadic work at Team17 anymore (His last game on Team17 was X2 if I am not mistaken), but I believe Rico Holmes still does.

None of them worked on the 2 last Alien Breed games, which were FPSs and not overhead shooters.

The video looks very promising imo but the only thing I'm a bit concerned about is that the enemies don't look like Aliens anymore. Maybe that's because they don't have the Alien licence but with a budget of 2.5 million dollars it couldn't have been a problem to get the licence as well (?)

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/105/1055240p1.html Looks pretty good, it's also available on the PSN. I wish they would have included the original Amiga games.

It's available since last wednesday but only on XLBA. PC version will follow next year and PS3 users will get it last, some 6 months later than the XBLA version.

Imo it's a great game and a worthy sequel to the Alien Breed franchise. I'll definitely buy Episodes 2 & 3 when they are out. Setting the difficulty to Elite makes it almost as hard as the old games :)

Looks pretty bad, honestly. I`d rather replay the fuck awesome Amiga CD32 version of Alien Breed: Tower Assault than pay for that.

Played through the campaign on normal and cleared coop.. coop could use difficulty options or at least more levels, it was a lot of fun as a coop game(RE5 style item sharing would have maybe made it a bit better tho) but ended quickly. The melee attack also felt a bit clunky and the button placement doesnt really work on a game like this.

The campaign felt like a silly errand hunt at times, not that it wasn't fun just that some situations were ridiculous.

For example: you need to go through a door to get somewhere.. the door is broken. you need to check a computer to see how the door is broken. you must find a replacement piece for the door mechanism. a burning room is blocking access to the place with the replacement part, you must find a console to extinguish it. the part is on a conveyor belt, you must stop the conveyor belt to get the part. the conveyor belt controls malfunction, you need to blow up the generators powering up the conveyor belt. you must find explosives to blow up the generators.. and then maybe youll get through that door, and enemies between every part of course

I liked level 5 especially, a large area to cross and huge amounts of enemies to kill. almost ran out of ammo at parts there, had to use every weapon where they were most useful, ended up rushing through the ship between the objectives. The boss was sort of disappointing though, and episode 1 should have had more than one IMO. Seemed like it just repeated three attacks and then you had a chance to hit it.

Another good thing.. this game reminded me I should finish Dead Space, and I did, great game.

I wasn't too impressed by the demo. The aiming seemed innacurate and I wasn't too keen on the flashlight idea.

Well, it certainly looks better then what Sega did with Alien Syndrome in the Sega Classics Collection for the PS2! I emulated the first Alien Breed a few years ago, and it felt like Gauntlet mixed with Aliens, not that that's a bad thing.

I'm on chapter 2. As mentioned, the motivations for what you're doing can be a bit silly (you feel like you're part alien exterminator/human rescuer/maintenance guy) but I'm enjoying it so far.
