Procedurally-generated shmups?

Post by paletteswappedninja »

Hi!

I've been looking around for shmups - vertical or horizontal, I'm not picky - that have randomly-generated or procedurally-generated levels. Crappy to awesome, it doesn't matter, I'm just trying to get a gauge on what has been done before and what might be possible for me to create. Anything you could link me to would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Kenta Cho's work is procedural.

Actually anything random is also procedural.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I'm aware of Kento Cho and eagerly await the release of Blast Works (seems to have been delayed by a day or so). And yeah, I know random games are procedural, I just wasn't sure if everyone would know what I ment by "procedurally-generated".

Keep 'em coming!

Warning Forever fits. Not for barrage, but for enemy design. It could be argued that one follows the other.

Each type of enemy has a set pattern, but enemy waves are random.

This recently announced upcoming next-gen title by Namco will be procedurally generated:
