A Real Old School RPG
Just played some of this for the first time in years and years:

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

That certainly looks old to me.

So does telnet still exist? Can one still get on ISCA?

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I liked Golvellius on the master system. Not as old, but old enough, and by Compile no less.

Damn, I can't believe you guys have never played LORD. It's like, the most epic online RPG ever.
Good game. It's actually older than LORD however!I liked Golvellius on the master system. Not as old, but old enough, and by Compile no less.
Not really. Depends on the baud rate and the line quality. The slower modems sound a lot cooler (lower frequencies).I remember being freaked out when I discovered that everyone else's modem makes the exact same dialing noise.

Word. Usurper and BRE are both great, but they do lack the humor that LORD has.LORD was good, but I was always more of an Usurper or BRE player. They had a little more depth to them.
I was a big BBS whore back in the day. Its how I more or less started gaming.
Does anyone remember that 'kill Barney' game? I think it was primarily installed on Renegade BBSes. Now that was an awesome game.

On the subject of older RPG games I like the genre before the deep character customization. It was more hassle free when one just had to upgrade to the next sword or armor. Now you tinker with massive maps of hidden tiles raising skills.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Eh, most of the western-made games always had a lot of customization, but the good thing was that you got to play as the character you wanted rather than some character that was already defined. On the subject of older RPG games I like the genre before the deep character customization. LORD was just pretty cool in the way it let you advance your character in multiple areas -- the tavern conversation system was really cool, as was the 'flirt with the barwench' option. Most RPGs these days, online included, don't have that level of interaction with NPCs.
