My shmup crossword.

Post by Aru-san »

New, revised (for the 3rd time) crossword with a total of 60 words.
Old, rather broken-hinted shmup crossword with 37 words.

Apologies if I left some stuff out, but it's already big, is it not? Anyways...enjoy. :o

Also, if some facts are wrong...point them out for me if you don't mind. I was in a rush to do this. (I'm at school. :( )

Edit: WOW. Shoot the Core posted up my crossword. Seems the Postman, being the amble shmup fan that he is, had some trouble with some of the words and its hints as well.

Maybe I SHOULD fix it to make it more shmup-accessible...and less difficult.

Link to the post here.

One way they piss shmuppers off is making bullet color = background color.
Your crossword sucks and is as wrong as it could be. Fix.

Any tips? (I went with pop info and such, so I'll probably go about with more research if that's what I need to do)

Until I fix it, maybe I should take down the thing.

Crosswords can be tricky if they're not specific. The only thing that clicked my mind when I was reading the post was "Fix." So the shmup crossword is down for now.

You can PM me if you want the version I have now...or you can wait a couple of hours for a new revision.

Takumi made a lot more than 2 shmups

Kyukyoku Tiger 2, Giga Wing, Mars Matrix, Night Raid, Giga Wing 2, Giga Wing Generations

Also does "get point" mean checkpoints?

I think "BYDO" is enough of an clue without mentioning the pod

At the Twinbee spot. You can also input Twinkle wich makes it a bit
confusing

"Popular shmup series that spanned a fan Flash game and a spinoff series. Home of the Miclus." = I think "MICLUS" alone is enough of a clue

"Some games have infinite amounts, some games have 2, and some have none." You always have at least one life or else you cannot play.

PS : this is pretty fun

Thanks for the appreciation! Yeah, this is whatcha get when you try and think of hints off the top of your head...without a computer...IN MATH CLASS. :o

To respond to your ideas:

1) Kyukyoku Tiger was made by Toaplan and published by Taito. However, I completely passed off Night Raid. (I blame my only source being Wikipedia).

2) "Get Point" is the name of the chaining system used in the DonPachi series.

3) BYDO. :o

4) Not sure how that would work, but I sort of understand what you're trying to imply here.

5) MICLUS. :o

6) I think Gradius loops infinitely. An example of a two-loop game would be any DoDonPachi (original DonPachi included) and Fabtek Raiden Fighters 2. An example of a game with no loop at all would be...pretty much most shmups out there.

Only 2 left...and they don't make much sense

"YOKO shmup with a horror theme that takes place in London."

"If you cannot chain in this shmup, veterans will frown at you." (that could be anything really)

also

"One way they piss shmuppers off is making bullet color = background color." = Dooyong?

Most of the bullets in Dooyong games are orange.

and Kyukyoku Tiger 2was made by Takumi
2) "Get Point" is the name of the chaining system used in the DonPachi series.
Where did you get this from?

I thought the answer was "Life".

Only made two unique games: one that has HUGE score count and one that contains only one button.
Thats the question I got.

I'll just give these to you as freebies.

YOKO horror shmup = DeathSmiles. Got the info somewhere that contained translated interviews, but I guess that didn't really come out well.

"If you cannot chain in this shmup, veterans will frown at you" mostly applied to DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou only because I saw some opinions about someone who wasn't really good at chaining and was paranoid about what people would think about him. Any tips on what better a hint there could have been is accepted.

About the whole bullet color = background color scenario...I was hoping people would guess Raizing. A better hint probably would have been "Company that applies frustrating rank and scoring mechanics to their shmups." Maybe plasmo WAS right.

I think Gothic is a better term than Horror for Deathsmiles

Also you have 11 Cave related answers, you could almost call it a Cave crossword.

And about Raizing games having the same Color for Background and bullets. Well maybe Garegga but thats all.

Maybe I should make a full-fledged Cave crossword in the future...of course, maybe that won't really be a bright idea seeing that most Cave-related words can be found here, save for a few games missing.

On the new one: The "THIS IS GREAT" one makes no sense to me, and that's AFTER watching the intro four or five times. There's no other word after that.

No idea...

A prequel to konami popular shmup series S _ _ A _ _ L E
No idea...

With these 2 I finish the first crossword...

I'm still working the next crossword

EDIT: damn the internet phenomenon...now I understand...I thought you mean a super famos horiz shmup rather than the creator of that infamous phrase...

EDIT: some1 explain me how can you remember that 1981 game... LOL

Last thing I miss to complete both: Japanese video game whose commercial was produced with English dubbing.

Never heard about LOL
Hint: Lurk around Nintenga's YouTube collection of Japanese TV commercials. Find one game that is a commercial for a Japanese game, but contains English voicing instead of Japanese.

ANOTHER HINT: It's for the PC Engine.

I'm assuming you won't have anymore motivation to do the fixed one. Though I do admit, I LOL'd at some parts...whilst double-checking your answers.
