Component video from a Saturn on a US TV?

Post by Jeffrey »

Ok, by reading this forum I have gone from a total newbie to someone who simply doesn't know very much. :):)

I currently run my Japanese Saturn via s-video.

I have a US-based Panasonic regular definition CRT television with a component input (red, green and blue colored inputs). I want to plug the Saturn into this input.

I bought for a few dollars a cable that plugs into the Saturn and ends with a 20-pin "computer-style" output. This output has no matching correlate on my TV. I believe this is an RGB-Scart cable (of the sort available on ebay). When I bought it several months ago, I thought it would just plug into my TV, but I was mistaken. I just saw the words "Saturn RGB" on the listing, and bought it.

I now think that what I need is an RGB-Scart to Component converter, in addition to this cable. Such items go for about 45-50 dollars on ebay. I would plug the cable into the Saturn, and the 20-pin connector into the converter, and the converter into the TV, and I would now have Saturn playing via component.

Is this correct, or should I be getting some other device or cable? This time I am going to ask before buying something. :)

I am gathering from this, and reading some more back threads, that getting the converter would not work, because there would be no audio out, unless I made some custom cables.

Am I now correct that there is no easily purchasable, commercially available way to get component connections to a standard US TV from an import Sega Saturn??

no component cables were made for the saturn. you could take a scart cord and make it into a component cable with audio plugs. I had to use scart cables for my xrgb. I had to rewire the cables. It's totally doable, you'll just have to get the right signals into the right component cords ect.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
