Under defeat - Help me get my head around the controls.

Post by neorichieb1971 »

I like the game, its awesome.

By mid level 2 i've lost all 3 lives due to the control system and the fact i'm playing on a pad, which is a bad idea anyway.

I am planning on a joystick purchase :D

I fancy the reverse control system because as you move away your firing goes in the direction of what your moving away from. I tried normal but it screwed with my head.

The main problem I have is realigning straight.. or for some reason if a tower is shooting straight down I will literally stay beside the line of fire until it stops to get in line with it. I know I can just swivel but it doesn't clock with my brain until afterwards. I had this sort of problem with Ikaruga, my head just couldn't compute the polarity thing.

I guess my gameplay brain works on the basis of "lining-up". And for the life of me I cannot reprogram my head around UD's unfamiliar control scheme.

Any tips to help me out.

A stick will work wonders.

I actually started out with Reverse also because I thought some Zero Gunner 2 experience could carry over.

However, I noticed it was really hard for me to aim without making a lot of extraneous movements. I move much more efficiently with Normal.

I'm the opposite. But maybe that's because I'm using a regular DC controller, which I'm used to.

yeah... reverse is way easier for me because i'm usually flying away from what i'm firing at otherwise i have to fly towards (or into) its bullets to shoot at it.

You can always practice with the chopper in the Sonic Wings series, the control scheme is exactly the same as I had hoped.
I recommend Total Control 5 and a Saturn pad (the bigger model)

I use reverse controls. However, I do believe that using the normal setup would be much more efficient. When using reverse, I find myself having to move quite a bit to get my fire lined up.

I always find myself using extremely sharp angles with reverse. I rarely, if ever, just turn my ship a little to fire. I'm either firing straight ahead or angled very hard one way or the other.

I've done fairly well with the game, but I've yet to make it to the stage 5 boss. This is probably due to lack of stage 5 practice rather than the controls.

It did take me quite a bit of time to get used to how the game controls, so I think if you give it some time, you'll be fine.

It took me about an hour to get the controls down, but a couple weeks to master. I've had the game since it came out and finally put about 10 hours in on this game a little while ago. Level 5 sure can be a beast though. I think I can beat the game on about 3 credits. That took a long time though, heh.

My suggestion would be just to work with the controls and learn the stages. Once you know where things will show up you can plan your angle of attack. As soon as you have your angles down you can work on forming a freeflow dodging pattern to tackle enemy hotspots and whatnot.

Err.....I guess just learn the stages with the control method of your choice. Personally, I found the reverse control scheme awkward as it's difficult to perform sweeping maneuvers without jinking slightly in the opposite direction.

well, just bought a boxed agetec from ebay in brand new condition.

Sods law that I changed plan to get a HRAP and TC+ instead, then winning the auction for the Agetec.
